Ace 250

I've already got a Fisher f2 and am very happy with it. I'm thinking about getting the Ace 250 for my son, why should I get an Ace 250 instead of another f2? I've also got a Vaquero which will be my main detector. Just looking for some opinions from users.

If you buy the 250 you can. 1. Directly compare the two detectors. 2. Check each others targets. 3. Find out why it's the best selling detector for yourself.

Once you start using the 250 you'll relegate the F2 as a spare detector.:garrett:

I love my Ace 250!!!:detecting:

Thanks for your detailed insights on the 250, I went to detectorreviews.net and read all the reviews for the 250.Now I'm not so sure now that I should get one. My ground here in N. Idaho is fairly mineralized, I may just get a SS uMax for a few bucks more than the 250. I'm not sure, I'll try to do more research. Thanks again!

I use the MXT, but today I took the Ace 250 for a ride.
I went to an old public park that used to be a school from
the late 1800's. The school was torn down years ago. The Park has been
hit hard by MDers over the years. Lots of mineralization there as well.
I was surprised at how well the Ace 250 handled it considering the
ground balance is preset. Just my opinion but I think there is more
to the Ace than meets the eye. The F2 is also a nice machine but takes
some getting used to by some users.

I have the Silver umax and it is a good detector for tot lots, schools, etc. You can put the 250 in either relic or jewelry(or all metal, for that matter!) and hunt just like you would with the Silver. So what's the difference? Well, with the Silver you learn to listen for pure vs. "erratic" sounds to make a decision to recover a target. And when in doubt you can "thumb" the disc control to have an idea what to dig. But if you get in a high trash area you have to set the disc higher to keep from going crazy. With the 250 you only glance at the meter and instantly know-or scroll down a few lines and put it in "coins" (notch mode) and just listen for the beep. Or if a certain trash target is prevalent you just go to "custom" mode and when the target hits, hit the button and you won't hear that target again! Or (as happened to my dad) you lose a certain known target just use "custom" to notch all segments around where the target falls and only items in that category will respond-time saver! Or hunt in all metal and instantly know the target without having to flip back to disc. Right now I'm have a brain strain trying to remember all the other goodies-but I think you get the idea. :nerd:

Very interesting slingshot and thank you for your post. What coils are available for the 250? I've got some extra cash so what I may do is get a 250 and a Compadre as it comes with a 5.75" coil which should work well for trashy areas.

That's not a bad idea since mfgs. have gone sky high on coils-and their answer is that the small coils have to be "set" just right or they're ruined and they have to throw them away. I wonder what they were doing when they could be bought as low as $19 w/purchase of detector from Kellyco? You actually get the compadre for about the same price as the coil! My thinking is that it is a money-making scam since hunters started endorsing them. Also, it just depends on the mood I'm in whether I use the Silver or the 250. If I've got plenty of time, and I'm not tired and just want to relax for a day, I take the Silver,my trash apron and overlap my coil while I'm sweeping and hunt at the lowest discrimination-hoping for gold.. If I''m cranky and impatient or in a trashy area-I definitely grab the 250. I usually start out in the relic mode-an a-w-e-s-o-m-e mode! In this mode you don't get the hairpins, small nails, paper clips, etc but you still get the great depth and the large iron that usually makes the 250 boong gives off a low tone instead. Then,I kinda go by sound AND ID to determine if I want to dig. And, if I start to relax and I turn up a lot of good objects I just dig every good sounding target. Also, I've read a lot of great posts on the Compadre by highly respected people, and if you like to dig everything (not a bad choice, BTW) , it sounds like it can outdo a lot of the big boys! Geez, I could on, sorry for the long post.
