ACE 250

Has anyone found anything in the small gold area, like a gold stun earring, with the standard coil, or the sniper. Also what would be the chances of finding a gold earring, with the 9X12 coil? or is the 9x12 to large to find small gold, or silver, in shallow dirf, say 1" or less.

I found my first silver with mine the other day, it was a 1947 quarter. basicly right on top of the ground. It was pretty tarnished, so I dont think it was resently droped. And the ground was pretty hard, two feet from a walnut tree.

You might be surprised. I've found very tiny items with all the coils.
Even the 9x12 can find BB sized objects no problem at all.
I've had the stock coil hit on tiny slivers of metal that took a
pinpointer to find in the hole.
So I don't think you would have much trouble.

I dug this small silver heart up last summer. It is in a penny holder, see how small. I dug it up on the 40 yard line of a football field at 8" deep. I was using the 250 and the stock coil. Sold me on the:garrett: ACE

You will have a good chance with the Ace. I have pulled up small bits of can slaw that was less than a millimetre in diameter with the large coil.

I am a newbie to metal detecting and just bought a ace 250. It was an open was a returned item at the store i purchased it from.I'm not sure if it is working properly, just wanted to know if there is supposed to be a slight buzzing coming from it. I would of bought a brand new one but they are all out and there is no other store in the area i live in. I took it out a couple of times and have not really hound anything but old bullet shells, the meter seems to bounce around alot. Sometimes i will get a hit on an area and start digging and find nothing and then re scan it and it the signal will be gone even when i search over the the pile of dirt i dug from the hole. Just wondering if this is normal.

A high pitched tone is normal emitting from the control head while on. Some people can't hear it but I can.

Yes, I get the phantom target on occasions with my gti 2500. I have only been out once with it ,(today) and I will post the results when I have time. I also get targets that go deeper the more I dig......?

The 250 is very sensitive to small items, especially gold. I have found the tiny posts from earrings at several inches. It don't get any more sensitive than that.

I'm a newbie & a new 250 owner myself, so take this for what it's worth:lol: I Believe I'd read something about this, and the problem was compounded by the lead from the coil being wrapped-around the lower end of the shaft. I ran the lead straight up the shaft for the 1st 12-15" & used nylon wire ties to secure it to the shaft. I've also read that an occassional wipe-down of the detector (not specifically the 250) with a damp (not wet) cloth helps to discharge any build-up of static-electricity. Try both of these & see if it helps.

On my machines, I run the coil wire straight up the lower shaft secured with Velcro straps. Then just above the collar is where I wrap the coil wire on up. I then Velcro it up near the upper end, leave a bit of slack and to the connector, so the wire does not strain at the connector. I think I posted a pic of some of my machines in the Tesoro section which shows the lower shaft section. Been doing it this way for years and can't recall why I started and kept it that way since. I think it had something to do with an old analog machine had less false signals after running the coil wire straight to begin with.
