the 250 needs a threshold, manual g.b. and an end to that terrible Bell Tone. Are you listening Charlie?? I have owned about six 250"s and alway sell due to the crumby Bong Bong Bong!!! That said , imho it is a far better detector than the F 70 I now use, the Omega 8000, F5 and others I have owned. I am not a newby, been at it since '76.. Now for the rebuttals. Ron

To me and my hearing, the audio is so loud that I have to use a single earpiece earphone
as the speaker. I'm talking one of those little ones that fit in your ear and has a little loop
to hang off the ear. I keep it plugged in all the time, and it's my speaker instead of the one
in the machine. I never actually stick it in my ear, as I have no trouble hearing it when it's
clipped to the arm band.
Turns that loud BONG, into a not so loud bong. I'm a sneaky hunter, and I do not want
everyone within 1000 yards hearing my machine go beep, boink, BONG..
I guess a manual GB would be handy, but for the grounds I'm usually over, it hasn't really
been an issue.
I still think it's the best $212 machine out there. I've been running mine over six years I think..
And haven't had any trouble with it yet. Bang on wood..

You might want to invest in a quality set of 'phones with a volume control. Garrett makes a nice set for around $30, each side has a separate volume control. I use Killer B's or Jolly Rogers myself.

I've got el cheapo Koss headphones from Walmart and I wear them next to my ears-NOT ON THEM! I can hear predators or whatever this way and the tones are mild and pleasing, actually. Not only that, in the hot summers, my ears NEVER get hot. Wow. I didn't know they compared to Fisher and Teknetics that well. Thanks.

Regarding the head phones.. I just move the pads away from the ear and let them rest on the
side of my head...I can hear the tones just fine. No need for me to by a set with volume control.

This is the set up I use. I just use one side so I can keep an "ear" out for anything threating and hear my ProPointer:detecting:

Simplest solution:

:bouncy:
It's adjustable too... Just peel one of the pieces of tape back a little to increase the volume.
