Ace 250

Smudge

New member
I have just bought an Ace 250 because I wanted a detector primarily for coin shooting and that offered some notch discrimination capabilities.

I used an Ace 350 in the past found the TID to be very jumpy and it would often sound off on targets that I had notched out.

Is there a way to avoid this on the 250?

I have considered limiting the sensitivity to 4 bars.

Any other suggestions?

Junk targets tend to jump around a lot and junk iron can also ring up like something good. When you start notching things out and the coil passes over a target in that range, you often can get a crack or blip out of the speaker because of it and that will not be repeatable. Rather than avoid it, just look for the solid repeatable targets and dig those.

Usually when you chris cross your targets if the sounds are consistent its a good target. Dig all for a while and you will get good with the Ace

I've found that detectors that are really quiet miss a lot of targets because their notch system is set pretty wide-which is why I didn't like the disc of the CZ-5. In order to find some targets I had to dig square tabs and foil. And some rings and good targets aren't gonna be steady under some conditions. But as was said, after a while you get the hang of the Ace-and some other detectors. Be sure and get the sniper coil.

I went out yesterday to a "new" park. I used the ACE 250 with stock coil. Sensitivity was set at 4. There were a TON of kids so I notched EVERYTHING out. Too hot to wear headphones! I watched the screen looking for "light ups" when I passed over a target back and forth. NO SOUND but a little tiring on the neck. If you number the disc segments starting from the left to the right you get numbers 1 - 12. I looked for targets that were hitting on Segment 4 (nickel) and Segments 9 - 12 (dime through dollar). I was there for 4 hours. Not many dimes this time but okay on quarters and nickels. Enclosed a close up of the nickels and junk as ALL the junk read SOLID as a nickel! Dig the junk, get the nickels and sometimes rings! And one Franklin Half...shape is okay. Neck was sore but a QUIET DAY!

Your are welcome. I only use one side and keep one ear "open" for my surrondings. That way I can also hear my Propointer. It really works great for me. Good luck on your set-up. :detecting:

Nice half-dollar !!! That would have made my day for sure !
