Hi Everybody
I've narrowed down my choices to these two fine MD.It's about all I can afford right now. I like the setup on both models. If anyone has experience on both machines or just one of them. Would you mind sharing you're thoughts on them.I know there not top of the line but some input would be helpfull in me making a choice .Thanks...pat

Unable to afford BOTH detectors, so I can only say that after learning to use my Ace, I'm VERY pleased with it. If the F-2 can "put the Ace to bed", it must be an awesome detector.

I've used both and still have two Ace 250's. The F2 is a nice detector especially sold with the extra 4 inch coil and rod. So now I will tell you the differences that mattered to me.

1.The F2's small coil even though tiny will not let you get within 12 inches of steel supports in tot lots or fences. Even at the lowest sensitivity. The Ace 250's 4.5 inch sniper coil is made different. It will let you get next to metal and see targets. For someone that has not used the Sniper coil on an Ace will not understand not seeing it for themselves.

2. The notches in or out is much easier on the 250 to perform. Plus you have the full range of accept or reject on the 250. No so on the F2.

3. The F2's cable connector can and does come loose as there is no jamb nut to keep it tight. I had to tape the connector and cable on especially when in the timber.

4. The F2 operates on two 9 volt batteries that are more expensive than the four AA batteries the 250 runs on.

This is what made my mind up to sell the F2. It is a fine machine. But I personally like the 250 better.

... makes me want to keep my Ace 250. I've been pondering selling it, but maybe I'll hold off.

Dave,
Don't sell it. I've made a great accessory for the 250 and 150's. It makes the Aces much better to hunt with. Sorry I can't say anything more. Give me 30 days.

You may want to also go to the Garrett forum and read the article about the Ace having more than 12 notches-some of them falling BETWEEN the word icons that may make it better in id'ing rings.(Of course, rings can fall anywhere, but nonetheless, it is an intersting insight) The reason I mention this is that some have favored the F2 for more info on the screen, and this, with practice, may enable the Ace to compete with the F2 as far info. Still, both good detectors.
