ace 250 vs at pro

New member
wanted a few opinions on the at pro,,i recently owned the 250 great machine very impressed sold went to a minelab ex not to impressed still would have had it if i didnt have some issues come up that stopped me from hunting but anyway im lookin to get back into it soon and was checking out the at pro how is it for the price i dont think ill find one under 600 is it a quick machine to learn coming from a 250 ? thanks in advance

I went from the 250 last year to the AT Pro, no regrets. AT Pro is a great machine, I keep my ACE 250 for a back-up. Once you get used to the VDI readings, nothing else will do. I had to send my Pro in for service, I made do with the 250 and found some good relics, but I missed my Pro bad the whole time it was gone I have found nothing close to the AT Pro, esp the water hunts I do

i have seen some used lately for around $450. just gotta find it at the right time. or you could always buy new and support your local dealer ;P(if funds available)

i went from the ace 150 to the ace 350, and the 350 to the at pro. i really didnt have to learn muchto use it(although i still feel like im learning/getting better with every outing). plus the garrett vids helped me get familiar with it before it arrived at my door. its very easy to use, and i am dreading the day i have to send her in. my finds increased big time, and i dont have to panic if it starts raining. i really dont know what else to say other than i dont think you would regret purchasing this machine. HH

I had the Ace 250 for a few years before getting the AT-pro and found the transition to be almost seem less as the Pro in standard mode is very similar and using Pro mode was quick to learn as you learn to go by the sounds you get from the machine. I had intended to keep the 250 as a backup but never looked at it again after getting the Pro. It is so much better. I finally sold the 250 and got a VX3 for a backup just to have something a bit different but I will always give thanks to the 250 for helping me learn the hobby.HH.

I personally never used the ACE series, but I came from a Whites XLT which I never fully understood how to tweak it. Took too much time to mess around with so my buddy told me to check out the ATPro. He actually bought one a month before me and he was going deeper and pulling oldies the first week he received it. He said it was very easy to use, showed me some pointers and I broke down and got one for myself. This upcoming Monday will be 3 months that I've had it and I gotta say, best detector out there for the money. Very easy to use and it will amaze you! If you do decide to get one, let me give you a tip that really helped me. Read the manual completely before doing a hunt. Go to an area you personally have pounded over the years. Grid! It will surprise you. I've been hunting this ball park for 3 full seasons now. Since I got the ATPro, I found over 25 more silver coins out of that ballpark that my XLT would'nt even know was there. So take it from me, for the ease of use, performance, depth capabilities, well worth the money.

Good luck on your decision and HH :)

I've both the 250 and atp, both good. The atp has a unique audio in the pro mode that is super good on id of iron, has a fast response, very good depth, good visual id and a bonus of being waterproof to 10 ft. Nothing has those attributes for anywhere near it's price. Talk to a dealer about price. you wont regret it.
