Ace 250 & the flying eagle cent..

With time on my hands waiting for winter to leave, so I can get out with little yeller feller, I have been doing some air testing to find out were my coins were registering on the ID scale. I have an 1858 flying eagle and was surprised to find it in the pull tab range, its hitting at #6 just under the ring of the pull tab icon. I also have 2 US large cents 1851 & 1852 it was surprising to see they dont' register the same, 51 at 11 and 52 at 10 on the scale. So if you are hunting in the coin mode you will not find a flying eagle. HH Ken

Ken,
I own a Fisher CZ-3D. I have been looking at the Ace 250 for a friend.
I think you will also find that many pre 1900 IH pennies will register below the coin range. This is one of the reasons that Tom Dankowski (developer of the 3D) pulled certain signals up into the coin range. Most detectors are missing these coins. On my 3D, 1880s and 1890s IHs will often register as a zinc penny. If I'm in old ground (which I usually am), I know not to pass this signal up as it may be an IH. All this corresponds to your finding with your Flying Eagle Cent (I'd love to find one of those).
