Ace 250 Sniper Coil Question

New member
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the Ace 250 sniper coil would be good for nugget hunting. My family and I are planning a trip to Dahlonega Georgia and was wondering if this coil would be good for nugget hunting. I have the original coil that came with it and it does not pick up picker nuggets unless it is 2 inches or less. I was just wondering if the sniper coil had better sensitivity. Thank you for your input.

The sniper should pick up nuggets better but the mineralization present with gold is the main problem to overcome. You may be able to pick up some larger nuggets but small ones may present a problem. One of our members is a nuggetshooter from Georgia and he can probably help you out better than I since he has hunted for gold there.

If you really want to find gold(with a metal detector)you need a dedicated gold machine, such as the Scorpion Gold Stinger or Infinium LS.
People have found gold nuggets with the Ace 250, but talk about LUCK! Yeah, you'd stand a better chance finding gold nuggets with the sniper coil because it is more sensitive to smaller targets, since it is a smaller search coil. In fact, the sniper coil is an excellent accessory for the Ace 250 and I highly recommend it regardless of whether or not you do any nugget hunting.
In order to do any serious nugget hunting and stand a decent chance of finding gold nuggets, you need a metal detector that has a true all metal mode as well as ground balancing capabilities. The Ace 250 has neither. I don't mean to discourage you from doing any nugget hunting with the Ace. Try your luck and have fun. It could happen!
The GTI 2500 and Grand Master Hunter can be used for nugget hunting, too, but the Scorpion and Infinium are best. Good luck!:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)

I found bb size objects with mine while trying the a/m mode. I hope someone else posts here as I've never found one and since I now have this fabulous coil-I would like to try. I will probably NEVER take mine off-or I'll get another Ace with the big coil for coins in places where the hunting field is huge. It is the BEST combination I''ve had in 30 years.

Yea, I said I'd never take my sniper coil off either.........but I finally did.
Now I just use it to get in and around smaller areas the stock coil can't.:)-)

All of the ACE coils are sensitive to small objects. Even the 9x12 will easily find BB's.
But... with the lower conductivity of gold and the often hotter ground in those areas, I can
see how a dedicated gold machine could help.
But I was really surprised at how well the big 9x12 coil hits on small objects. Even tiny
slivers of metal will set it off. BB's hit real hard on all the ACE coils. I've found single
BB's and tiny slivers of metal using the 9x12 coil. It's really not that much less effective
than the sniper, except for seeing more objects at once naturally. More depth too as
long as you keep a decent swing speed.
You can use the pinpoint mode on the ACE 250 as an all metal/non motion mode. I do it quite
often. You want to make sure you are not de-tuned though. When using the pinpoint mode,
the sensitivity control has no effect. It's always full blast unless the machine de-tunes on a
button press. It seems to adjust the sensitivity right when you first press the button, and then
it holds it until you release. So if it de-tunes, just re-press the button a time or two until it
sounds hot again.
