Can anyone help. My nephew recently bought a ace 250 but doesn't know much about detecting.
Is it possible to null out ferrous to some extent as can be done with my Explorer.
Any help would be appreciated as he is getting fed up with just finding rubbish and as he lives 6,000 miles away I cannot be of any help.
Thank you all.

Oldranger is correct on the path to take with the Ace.

There are 12 "notches" on the Ace 250 so most anything can be "removed" from the audio portion of the dector.

Start with the "Jewelry" mode which eliminates iron until you learn what the tector is trying to tell you.

It really is a good, reliable, simple dector..

Have him go on YouTube and look up A250 they have tuns of videos on how to use it and everything you would want to know anout it. Hope he finds a lot they are good starter machines. Happy Hunting :)

First, make sure the coil wire is run about 4" up the coil before winding it the rest of the way. This stops a lot of possible problems. The Relics mode is the same as putting the Ace in a "nails" reject-it will reject very small iron and detect everything else-it's my favorite mode. Sensitivity settings are a HUGE factor in the stability of the Ace and false signals from large junk. A setting of 4 is the "standard" sensitivity for the most depth with the least overshoot on signals. as posted by Bill before his untimely demise. He was very proficient with the Ace.. Mineralization and trash can change that. In some of my trash areas,.I can tear up the sites at 3 bars. In wide open fields with good ground, I've had it up to 6 bars . As one poster said, a/m mode is good, but I get tired of all the iron "boop" sounds and prefer the Relics mode, which just rejects them. The faster the Ace is swung, the deeper it goes and I have lowered the sensitivity to 3 bars and used a "brisk" but controlled sweep speed to obtain deeper targets without as much overshoot.

Thanks all I shall let my nephew know.
My personal machines are Detector Pro Wader TWO. Minelab Explorer SE Pro.
The Wader is used on the rocky areas with very little sand covering and the rock gullies which can be washed out of all the sand, best gully up to now about 850 fishing weights, rocky areas 1855 Gold Sovereign.
The Explorer is mainly used on sandy beaches and farm land, best find a 99% Gold wedding band.
