Ace 250 question

Hey guys I have a question. What do you think is the best sensitivity and mode for finding old coins and relics. I know there is relic mode I just find scrap metal and a lot of false signals

Thanks in advance :help:

I would use jewelry mode and 7 bars of sensitivity.Jewelry mode just rejects iron, relic mode allows some which I do not like so I never use it.

I'd have to look at the scale on mine, but relic mode is generally lower to middle conductivity range.
So it's possible to miss some higher reading coins if one were locked down to a lower range.
Myself, I run mine wide open most of the time. There is really no way to avoid digging trash, and
to also avoid missing good stuff. Some stuff you might reject may well be good stuff.
So I dig everything, unless it a known repeatable such as roofing nails, etc.. Those will rust and
bounce low-hi on ID. Coins don't bounce. Some relics might if they are rusty though.
The best sensitivity is the one set to match the ground you are detecting. I run as high as possible.
But if the chatter gets to be a bit much, dial it back a bit. Myself, I'm used to the machine and can
tell real hits from just chatter. The real hits will repeat. The chatter doesn't.
You will lose depth if you set the sens lower than what you can get away with the ground you are on.
IE: if you can run "9" over a particular ground with minimal chatter, setting the machine to "4" will
cost you some depth.

The relics mode is awesome. The a/m mode is even more awesome if you can get used to the constant ''boop'' for iron.

The relic mode on the detector is a good place to start. Set your sensitivity no higher than the conditions allow.
We usually turn the SENS too high, thinking it will vacuum in the goodies. It won't.
Start it about 60%

But I have a question for you: are you detecting in locations where you KNOW valuable old coins and historically significant relics exist?

It may be you are finding trash because that is what's there. Iron is particularly troublesome because of its tendency to mask other signals. It plays havoc with the detector, and the 250 is no better than any other at being overwhelmed by it.
The suggestion was made to hunt in all metal for a while. Why?

So you'll learn if you are around a lot of iron.
If so, you have a challenge. Whenever I get a lot of falling, I set DISC at the lowest setting and listen to it.

It's hard at first, and we want our detectors to "eliminate trash and find only treasure."
... and that's advertising hype.
The truth is, you must KNOW if your detector is being subjected to something like iron masking.
The way to do that is to use your instrument - you have to listen for it.

It's rarely mentioned in detecting circles, but you cannot find what isn't already in the ground. If you are finding trash and getting a lot of false signals, you will have to clear away the cause, first. Then you stand a better chance that something good may turn up. That's why is best to know beforehand if it's worth all that effort.
