Ace 250 Question

I'm new to detecting and I will be buying a couple ACE 250s (one for me, one for my wife). I've been reading posts on here for a few weeks and recognize that y'all are quite knowledgeable. My question has to do with coils. Is the Bounty Hunter 4" Gold Nugget Coil compatible with the Ace 250? I have someone offering to sell one to me but I don't know whether I should buy it or not.
Thanks for any help.

They are different. Garrett makes the accessories that you need for the Ace. I think the 4.5 coil is real close to being available for the ACE series. These little coils are exc. and you will be happy when searching in trashy areas.

Thanks...do I get the idea that I offended y'all? Sorry about that if I did. As I said, I'm very new to all this. I'll try to stay out of your hair from now on...

these guys a just trying to steer you clear of making a mistake.most of the different manufacturers coils aren't compatible with the others machines, due to different operating frequencies and connectors.

Sorry...didn't realize they were different brands. All I know about metal detectors, I've read on here. I've not even looked at other brands and the only reason I chose Garrett is because they're sold in my friend's pawn shop.

I didn`t know much about detectors a couple of years back either. I have gotten a lot of questions answered and learned a lot on both Garrett forums.

Absolutely not. You can't offend anybody here. <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> I just didn't want you to hook an alien coil to your detector and blow its brains out. <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

Hello, I am trying to decide between the garrett 250 and the garrett 1350. I realize the 1350 is about $350 more. Money is not a problem but I don't want to spend that extra money on unnessary bells and whisles. I have heard alot of good things about the 250. The only negative thing I have heard on the 250 is that it goes through batteries real fast. Which one would be a better choice ?
Thanks, Bob

Since money's no object, get 'em both. You can never have too many Garretts. I have 5, the 250, the 1000, the 1250, the 1500 and the 2500 and use and love them all. The 250 is fun and no, they don't eat up batteries, must be some other brand dealer spreading vicious rumors. Each of the others have their specific uses, depending on how I feel like hunting. No matter what you decide, getting a Garrett(s) is a good decision. Happy Hunting!!!

Great arsenal there. Have you compared the 250 to the 1000. Also 1000 verses the 1250. Just curious how the 250 does in performance against the reliable 1000. Then ,besides some new features on the 1250 ,how does it perform along side the 1000. Thanks

Let me begin by saying that I haven't had the 1000 long enough to get a solid opinion of it yet. It is an Ultra and not the Power Master model. I bought it on E-bay recently for a good price and had it refurbished at the Garrett Factory to make sure it was up to par. The one thing I have noticed is that it is not as "hot on the lower conductivity targets. I have to listen more closely to the mid tones as they are not as sharp as what I'm used to on the 1250 and 250. The higher conductivity targets are loud and clear so not much difference there. I plan on comparing it to my hunting buddys 1000 Power Master to see if we can tell any differences there might be between them. I can't really say much about depth comparisons as I haven't logged that much time on it yet and to be fair I won't be able to do a real side-by side due to different coil configurations on the 1250 and the 1000. Right now I have a 5" Hothead Ferrett on the 1000 as the stock coil really seemed sluggish and I have the 7 x 10 elliptical on the 1250. Apples and oranges there. I might hook up the stock pizza coils on both one day and give them both a test run, just for fun, though.
I believe the biggest thing between the 250 and the 1000 is the response recovery time. That little 250 doesn't miss a beat. When I first got the 1000, I took it to a school and with the stock coil attached, worked a parking lot median so I could be sure that I would be covering a defined area. After going over it with the 1000 and recovering a respectable amount of coins, I rigged up the 250 and worked the same median and recovered coins that the 1000(and probably somewhat due to my unfamiliarity with the 1000)had missed. Most notable were the amount of nickles that the 250 really bangs on and the 1000 hardly seems to notice. I do get a response from them, but not the hard hit of the 250 or the 1250 for that matter. Now, all that being said, I still want to compare it to the 1000 PM my hunting buddy has, as I am not sure it is 100%, even though it has made 2 trips to the factory.
I'm not sure I answered your questions, but these are some things I have noticed so far. I'll keep swinging and digging and having a blast doing it, no matter which one I have in my hand.
Happy Hunting all!!
