Ace-250, Prizm IV or V, and the ID Edge which one?

My wife wants a target id detector.

My wife's got arthritis in the hip joints so she can't really get up and down to dig. So depth isn't an issue. However weight is. Currently, she swings my Tesoro Golden. Swinging weight is 2.2 pounds. That is still just a bit heavy for her.

She needs target id, tone id, and a pinpoint mode, and the ability to notch.

I'm looking at these three machines because they have the features she needs and are the lightest TID detectors I can find. If you know of a lighter one that has these features, I need to know.

So...which one would be a better choice, and, how could I make them lighter?

It hurts like crazy getting up and down! Terrible, nagging pain. Are any of the detectors u listed that light? A small coil and shorter rod may be the best solution. I can see where ID would be helpful for her, as it should mean only bending to get the "real stuff" hopefully. She may have to pass up some of the "iffy" stuff the diehards go for, but when you're hurtin', nothing bugs you more than going through some agony for a square tab...

Plus I have no experience with those other units, hopefully someone else may be able to compare them all better.....
The Edge field test is done & should be on the FRL web page soon. Hopefully that may help you...
good luck with whatever you choose.....

But she likes to get out.

None of these machines are as light as the toysoro, but they all hover around close to the 2.5lb mark and have the features she wants.

I was really just looking at the ACE and Prizm until the Edge came along.

thanks,

Mike

That would make it alot lighter.

Hmmmm.....

I'm waiting on the T2 release from 1st Texas, then I have a DMCIIb on the list after that. This would strickly be her machine. We'll see how she picks once I get all the info lined up for her.

Hipmounting the Edge would be my choice given the situation.

I have a Prizm 5.Got it for my kid.One of the first things he found was an 1899 token. It is so light it feels like your swinging a pinpointer. It's fast and has great depth to boot.I would definately try one.Dave

The "Better livin through chemistry" approach. The "other" little blue pill - hydroco-apap. It works for my knees which will be replaced next summer.
Just a thought,

the "other" little blue pill, since the goal would be minimizing stiffness...due to arthritis  Okay, I'll behave now..

Yes, you'd want to get up AND down.

Thanks for the feedback Dave.

Its one I've been looking at for a while.

When I research a detector, I save the faceplate as wallpaper on my laptop computer so I can see it all the time and think about it. The Prizm V stayed there for about 3 months before I took it off a couple of weeks ago. Its purty.:wiggle:

The CoinStrike only stayed up about a month before I decided to buy one. The longest running faceplace was the Tesoro Cortes. I liked looking at that one. It worked ok too. It just needed tone id on the front end and ground balance in Disc mode. I had that one up for nearly 6 months. :drunk:

kind of like buyin your wife a Table saw for Xmas. Now if you want a good little unit for not that much money, the Ace 250 is a nice machine.

If you get her a Coinstrike, there's no WAY the poor old bird will use it (way too heavy) THEN you get her the ID Edge. If the Edge works out for her, you would of course need to another buy one of those too. After all, that's only fair...

I'm just trying to get her a metered machine that she would like and find easy to use so that she would enjoy it more. Like I said, it doesn't need to go deep. It just needs to be light, have tone id, have a visual target indication meter and a pinpoint mode.

I'm really leaning toward the Ace-250 for her because of the coil configuration, the optional smaller coil, and the multiple notching capability. I think it would allow her more hunting freedom, and more fun. Between the Golden and the Ace, she would pretty much be set.

As for me, I'm staying with my CoinStrike, my DFX, and my future Teknetics T2. That pretty much covers all my bases. I wouldn't mind playing with a Nautilis some day, though.

Happy Coinstriking :)
