ACE 250 pinpointing question / problem

I have an ACE 250 with the standard coil and have been using it awhile now I had began to pop coins out with a screw driver because I could get that close. I noticed I'm missing pin pointing by a couple of inches lately. I tried resetting the unit and new batteries...things just did not seem just right. Tried some coins lying on the floor and discovered the outer coil seems to not be detecting anything only the inner coil gets me a signal. When pin pointing I have a tone until the outer coil is over the coin and it goes silent until the inner coil is over the coin then I have the tone back. Inside the inner coil I have tone in all that area. Am I just noticing what has been going on all along or is the coil acting up?

Hello,
I don't know have any experience pinpointing, (cause my ACE 250 is not here yet) but the following is from a post by Uncle Willy,
(It does seem that the inner coil is the one used for pinpointing as per this post):

When pinpointing scan side to side and center the target then slide the coil straight back until the instant the signal stops. The target ( on shallow targets) will be under the center front tip of the inner coil. Deeper targets will be a little back ( towards center of the coil) from that point.

Maybe you will get some feedback from UW or others that have experience, but from your description, it seems, according to the info from UW, that your machine is working properly.

Sounds OK to me. The outer coil is the Send col and the inner coil is the Recieve coil. I've always pinpointed right in the notch in the center using the "X" wiggle method.

Just bought the 250. If you use the notch, like BigCatDaddy said, it works well. I get within a 1/2" or closer. Great little machine. Picks up stuff my Master Hunter missed.
