Ace 250 Pinpoint Signal Won't Die

Relic

New member
I've checked past threads and didn't find this topic; if I missed it and this is repetitive, I apologize.

I sometimes get a pinpoint signal that won't quit. Left to right centering isn't quite as crisp as normal, though not too bad, but when I draw back the coil, instead of the signal stopping abruptly, it just slowly fades, never quite fading out completely. What is the coil seeing and how should I handle it.

Thanks,
Relic

Sorry I can't help you. I have had the same problem. It seems to happen to me more in mineralized soil. I don't recall that problem in Fl. I concluded it was the soil that it locked on to.

You have to detune all your targets. If you don't then sometimes the tone never stops. Also if your in a trashy are then it can be picking up other metal close to your target as the PP mode is all metal. This would happen with any detector. I detune every one of my targets during pinpointing.

How high are you running your sensitivity? Could be something big down deep or a pocket or pockets of rust. Try detuning and see if you can narrow it down.

You're not wearing steel toed boots? Sometimes if I have a pocket full of coins I get a hit if I'm kneeling by what I'm digging too.

I've been keeping the sensitivity at four. As for footwear, the most recent time it happened, I was at a beach and wearing sandals with no metal.

Turn sens down more. Does it do this in other areas? Does it do this with another coil? Did you de-tune?
Strange - just strange.

Sensitivity is 4. It has done it in several areas. I only have the stock coil, though I am going to get the 4.5 inch coil and I'll be interested to find if it does it with the smaller one. I have not detuned; I am definitely going to try that the next time it happens.

G'day relic.
That is quite normal behavior for the Ace. It usually means that there is a large piece of iron in the ground or similar. I had it happen to me a couple of times today. It happens most times I go out to hunt.. Nothing to be concerned about. Something to remember when pinpointing with the Ace, if there is 2 or more targets in the ground, that are in line with each other, then the pinpoint will seem to act as though you are detecting a piece of pipe. If this happens, turn 90 degrees and pinpoint again, this time hitting the pinpoint button a second time (detuning) and pinpoint from side to side rather than pulling it back to yourself, This will quickly tell you if you have 1 large target or multiple targets.HH.
