Ok ive narrowed it down too 2 metal detectors.. i think.

Its out of the ace 250 or the "pirate"
here is the link to the pirate and you probably already know about the ace 250
http://www.surfscanner.com/Surfscan3/Pirate.html

Well im definately only going on beaches and am looking for anything of any value or interesting. I will go in the water if the one you choose can do that cheers guys

Hope to be posting my finds eventually

If your plans are hunting beachs and in the water the Pirate would be the choice. The Ace 250 is not even water resistant. HH Dennis in Idaho

If your going into the water, get the pirate. But if you are going to be doing any land hunting, I would say get the Ace 250. While land hunting you are gonna want to know what you are detecting and the depth of the item. If you could swing it, I say get both. I'm saving for a water machine. If you get the Ace 250, don't get the control housing wet. When I am at the beach, I just detect with the water 2/3 up the shaft. I also put the control housing in a zip-top bag and use electrical tape to help against splashes. I hope this helps...

I want to know will the ace 250 provide better quality on beaches not in water
and can i use ace 250 in water without it breaking if i keep water away from control box and will it be as good as the pirate if not better.?

Also i must sound a bit annoying but what would you choose if you were hunting at the beach?

also did you say you went in water with ace 250 with water 2/3 up the shaft.?

and do you find alot of finds in water normally.?

Honestly, I couldn't go out far enough in the water to where the good stuff is. Once water gets into the ACE housing, its finnished. If you are going to be at the beach and in the water a lot more than on dry land, I say get the pirate. I am probably wrong, but it must be a pain in the rear to detect on land and just go by the sound, and not be able to tell the depth. In the water its super easy to dig with a scoop, but on land it can be tough dirt, and not knowing how deep it would imagine would be a pain.

If it is at all an option, I say get both

Sorry, this prolly isn't much help.

My opinion is the Pirate, I have both the ace 250 and the pirate..for wet/dry sand or in the water the Pirate (in my opinion is by far the better choice. Don't under estimate the pirate as a land machine either, it will do a very fine job.

Why on earth would you want to run a land machine that is not waterproof in the water. The Pirate is your best choice.

Hey Tropic! I have the Ace250 and an Excal II. The Ace is hell on coins at the beach and some misc. stuff but (in my area) it tends to false in the wet sand or surfline, to the point where you have to turn down your sensitivity several notches. A case in point: One day my friends Jess and I were detecting together and I found a target with a strong signature in a small puddle that had been created as the tide went out. As there was no danger of her machine getting swamped, I decided to call her over and test the Ace's abilities in the wet sand. As I pointed out the first thing she had to do was turn the sens button down to 2 bars....she then swept over my target area while I stood away. No hit. I dug the item which turned out to be a quarter. I threw it back down and we monkey'd with the detector until it was picking up the quarter...the only problem was after it found the quarter it kept falsing as well. There is no middle ground for sensitivity on the Ace (I think its because of the push button adjustment). IN my humble opinion, the ace is great fun for dry sand but not so great in the wet (and that might just be my area). After a month the only treasure it has produced is a pair of silver earrings. The Excal on the other hand has had numerous gold and silver finds. My advice...buy the best detector you can for the money. It is one of the few times when the price you pay directly affects your success.

Ive decided im getting the pirate if someone can tell me by looking at the website if the whole metal detector is waterproof.? e.g i can stick the whole thing in the water without it breaking?
And will it get me decent finds like an ace would.?
