Hello

I am new to this and I am looking for some guidance I live in mass and I will be on the beaches and the back woods and fields. I am asking for some help in picking out a detector and I have heard alot of different reviews so I just want to know where im going to get my bang for my buck.

thanks
mike

I have never heard of a qd2. Get a Garrett ACE 250. Literally hundreds of thousands have been sold world wide and they have proven themselves time and time again to be dependable and the "BEST" value for money spent. They are also made in USA, and it says so, right on the box. :)

I'm sure the BH is a fine detector. But you can't go wrong with an Ace 250. The company has been around a long time. The support is great. There is a lot of helpful people on the Garrett forums. I own two Ace 250's that get used a lot. Welcome to metal detecting!

Ace 250

The ACE 250 is the easiest detector I have ever used. I am finding silver in places I hunted 20 years ago with the then top of the line detectors.

This is sort of like preaching to the choir, asking that question here! But, from my experience the Ace 250 is a more solid detector than the BH - any BH. Yes the BH's work. but they are flimsy in my hands. Too, First Texas is not an American owned company - Garrett is. WIth the 250 at about $210-225, the extra money is well spent, IMHO.

What I said is that it isn't American owned. I work in S. Carolina, but the company I work for is owned and controlled in England.
If BH/Fisher has changed it's ownership and is now owned and controlled by an American company, then I stand corrected. But last I knew, the two were owned by a foreign group, thus any money you spend with them goes overseas.
It may not matter to you, or anyone else, and that's fine. But I figure if you can get a good detector from a company that is owned and led by a good American like Charles Garrett, why wouldnt you?

here - here!!!:usaflag:

Ditto. I live near the Garrett factory. I know several folks who work there personally. I think Garretts are tops......And I have the gold to prove it....Jack

add another vote for the ace 250, i've got mine and love it. now i just need to find a good place to hunt with it.
You say First Texas is not an American Co? It is in El Paso,Tx.......Jack
First Texas is owned by:

Prospect Partners, LLC
200 West Madison Street

Yes it is in El Paso...but I don't know where they are made (assembled?) I know Garrett assembles their machines. I have seen photos, TV programs and had discussions about their assembly lines with Garrett staff. They are made in USA...it even says so on the box. There must be a good reason why this is mentioned on the box AND their website. I never said FT are made elsewhere. It just doesn't say where they are built?

Thanks, awhister. Im glad you put that right. I stand corrected.

Do your patriotic duty, then, and buy what you wish - but make it the Garrett. Again, the BH's are too flimsy to suit me. Naturally, someone will now come forward and announce that their BH has lasted forever and taken the abuse of a prizefighter. But me, I'd tear one up in a minute. The ones I've seen and used were flimsy and not near as rugged as they need to be for sustained use. Im really suspicious of the coil.

By contrast, I've lent my Ace 250 out many times to hamfisted newbies, with these instructions, "Just turn it on and go for it. It turns on ready to hunt." It has come back each time none the worse for wear. For a while it made the rounds of my co-workers and was with others more than with me!

I fear to think what might have become of a BH under those trying conditions.
