ACE 250 Issue

CCSJr

New member
Hello everyone, I just bought an ACE 250 this weekend. I was wondering if anyone else has had the issue that I am having and I was wondering if it was just a common thing with metal detectors.
The issue I am having is that the metal detector although it does detect fine also seems to go off in places where I am pretty sure there is nothing and also seems very erratic, could I have maybe got a defective coil? I am planning on calling Garrett tomorrow, but I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts.

Try setting the sensitivity down to about 4 or 5 , In certain soil types it can go nuts if the sens. is too high .Hope that helps.

Yup turn the sensitivity down. But not to low. Also I have found stuff were I didn't think anything was there. You just never know!! Good luck

At higher sensitivities the belltone will go off on a surface piece of a clipped tab end, a tiny button or tiny piece of metal-which will usually disappear on the return sweep if the coil is lifted and the sweep speed is slowed down. These objects are difficult to see and it's just the detector overreacting because of heightened sensitivity. #4 setting is the majority setting and is a perfect compromise between too much and too little. Don't worry about losing depth-in the schoolyards and tot lots I hunt at sens. #3 and regularly find coins at the 5-6" level. It just happens to be my favorite setting-however I always use the relics mode so my discrimination isn't high. In high trash areas I have used #2 sens. and murdered the coins in an almost impossible situation. Of course, after I get the sniper coil I won't have that problem anymore. If you can stand the slow pace due to the small overlaps, the 4" coil is a killer and sensitivity settings aren't all that particular.

Make sure that your coil cable is secure to the shaft, but don't put strain on the lower part of the cable where it connects to the coil itself as you can damamage it. Also check to make sure that you don't have anything trapped in your coil cover (if you have one on) as this can cause falsing issues as well.
Mick Evans.
