Ace 250: I have a concern.

Hi:

I wonder if anyone else has had this happen with the Ace 250.
I laid the Ace down and started to dig for a target. A moment or two later the Ace
started sounding off like some fierce. It just went on and on until I turned it off and
on again. This has happened a couple of times now. AND YES I CHECKED the
batteries. They were put in brand new. The Battery indicator indicated FULL.
Also the coil was nowhere near anything metalic.
Anyone have any ideas before I call Garrett?

Regards

Coil wire loose? Or try resetting the machine. Push the power button for about 8 seconds untill you hear 2 quick beeps. Then try it.

I've had that happen in two areas (with new batteries). On one occasion, I figured out [through a rigorous spatial test] that someone's satellite TV dish was the cause, at a second beach site, the crazy pinball continous sounds would only go away if I got below the berm of the beach out of line of sight of nearby houses. I suspect some other kind of radio-frequency interference.

Oddly enough I had that happen for the first time today. I was hunting an old lakeside next to the high speed train line, It was interference. I had to turn off the ACE to reset it as well. I have had the same thing with the CXIII. Sometimes electrical interference seems to overload the machines and the only way to stop is to reboot.

Thanks everyone. When a detector dealer told me it was possible a CB from a passing Simi truck might have been the cause I was skeptical but from what you have all shared, maybe not.

I had mine go crazy in a park. After looking around, I was near a huge underground electrical vault. Also if your coil is near your pinpointer it will go crazy.

Remember your detector is an electronic device - a mini computer and a radio signaling and receiving device to be exact - and is affected by outside interference. Don't discount anything.

I just read this in the Minelab forum. If you do not periodically clean your coil cover the dirt can become magnetized and cause falsing like you are experiencing.

I love when I learn new things, and I love sharing them!

I put that info out on this forum ages ago. I always inform users that if they use a coil cover they have to keep it cleaned out or the moisture and dirt will cause falseing. If you get enough dirt it will make the cover stick as is this fellow's current problem. I would hold the edges of the coil under warm water for a bit then squirt some dish soap around the edge and let it set a bit then try to remove the cover.

I once had a cover stuck and worked at it for awhile. I ended up taking a tub of warm water, almost hot, and held the coil to where just the scuff cover was resting on the water surface. After about a minute or so, I was able to remove the scuff cover. I guess the water temp was enough to expand the scuff cover rendering it removable. Since, I remove the scuff covers on a routine basis and haven't had any problems.
