Ace 250 Help - Do I or Don't I ?

Sir Findalot

New member
Hi
as a first time detector that is still to buy a machine I need a little guidance from the experts..
I am Based in Australia on the east coast, I want to do mostly parks and beaches and occasionally head to the
gold fields ( One or twice a year) I was set to buy the Ace 250 but I was told that its not real good for salty sand
or for gold fields and I should look at the Whites MXT. As you you guys have all the experience I will be guided by you.
Thanks

Sir I have also heard that the ace250 is not good around the salt water but I can't recommend much cause I don't know much. there are some real pros here that will help you out I am sure. Sir findalot is one cool name lol. best of luck to you.

The Ace 250 is a great machine. However, it may not be the best if your main hunting will be in salt water and sand. I don't know anything about the MXT, will let others answer that part of the question. However, you can use the Ace on the beach. The first time I took my Ace outside was when visiting my daughter in North Carolina and we spent the day at the beach. I knew next to nothing about anything, and I had the sensitivity way up (you want only 3 or 4 bars of sensitivity at the beach), I was also detecting on all metal. My Ace was constantly ringing and I thought there had to be treasure everywhere! The only thing I managed to dig up was a bottle cap. So if you use the Ace, be sure to learn from the guys on here who really know what they are talking about. Also click on search up above, type in Ace250 as one word and read all the hints and tips over the last few years. If you don't know, don't be afraid to ask. I think the Ace is perfect as an all-around detector but listen to pros and cons on any machine you are considering.

Good luck to you on your decision, and on your hunts. Be sure to post pictures of your finds. :garrett:

Hi Findalot, I have the MXT and can tell you it is hard to beat in the gold fields. It dose very well on the beach, not as good as a beach detector but it will work well. For parks it is killer, if you want all around detector it cant be beat. The ACE 250 is a very good park detector, but don't do as well at gold fields, the ground is to hot, that is it has to much iron in the ground. The MXT has a prospect mode, so it can handle the iron. Hope this helps, Dean

Dean'
Thanks for the info, I am not sure if the cost of the MXT is justified is i 4 times better than the ace. I will see sift through the info and make a choice soon so I can get out there

Sir,
My wife has the Ace 250 for the beach and parks It is an excellent detector. [I use a GTI2500 when I can.t pinch her 250]
I find using the custom mode and 4 bars on the sensitivity ideal on Melbourne beaches and parks. The 250 is easy to use and very light, you can swing it all day and not get tired. When we are detecting together she finds more than I do. Previously to hunting the beaches and parks we detected for gold in the Vic. triangle and West Aust. goldfields with about 20 years experience. My advice to you is forget about the goldfields with the 250. You have to spend about $6000 to get the best GP 4500 Minelab detector, Otherwise you are wasting your time.. If you get the Ace 250 I will help you to set it up.by phone

Thanks for that have you have any experience or no how the MTX pro is in australian conditions

Thanks for the help I will let you know which one I decide on

You might want to consider the new Whites Prizm 5G. Just came out, and is $449.00. A great price for the technology you get. The Ace is great, I own one...but for the price, and the features the new 5G cant be touched. There is no other detector at that price with an auto ground balance, coil size, sensitivity, etc. hh

Sir., I have no experience with the MXT Pro. My best mate bought one and he had enough trouble learning it . It took him about3 months to get proficient with it. And then it started breaking down , 3 times he sent it back under warranty.-------- I kept well away Maybe he just got a lemon.
