ace 250 head phones question

I have a Garrett Ace 250...I love the unit. I have one problem. I did not buy a headset with it and I can't seem to find any that will work in the headset slot...I get into looking for stuff and then I get everyone and their brother coming up to me asking "what have you found" ....Drives me nuts. Are their headsets from Garrett only the headsets you can use? I have tried several different plugs and dont seem to have an luck..Anyone have any ideas or can help..I would be greatful...Thanks...Seamonster777

You can use just about any head set i think the ace has a 1/4 plug in. If the head set you got has is smaller plug you can get a adapter from radio shack or any electronic store.

The Unit has a 1/4 inch headphone jack, so most any headphone with a 1/4 inch plug should work. The Garrett premium headphones are decent headphones, they are priced right and have individual volume controls.

I just use a cheapy set with an adapter. I hang them around my neck as there is no volume control. Works fine for me.

i have a headphones plug:garrett: that is mono and it works

Most any headphones will work with the adapter if needed. However I recommend something with a volume control since the 250 does not have one. I have modified some old headphones I had around with a 3.3k resistor in series and that also cuts the volume to a nice level.

most any headphones will work ..as long as they have a 1/4 inch jack...if you use headphones with ear muffs you can pretend you cant hear people talking to you...:crylol:

I am a new user and just received an Ace 250 Friday with headset. Try this company. I am sure they can help you.

I use a set of wireless headphones from RS, and a 1/4 to 3.5mm adapter. It works well, and you can hear other things around you. Some people don't like that, but I prefer it.

So here is the wierd thing.....I went out an bought a connector from Radio Shack. I bought a cheapie set of headphones..I tried both and neither will give me any sound out of the ACE 250????? I figured there was nothing too getting a regular head set but I must be doing something wrong because I cant get any head set to work. I got a 1/4 plug..But no sound...So I any ideas?????????

If your adapter plugs into the ace properly and you still aren't getting audio, you may have a broken wire. Is the jack that the phones plug into loose? If so, it may have twisted. Does the speaker stop making sound when the adapter is plugged in? It should be muted with the plug fully inserted.
Good luck!

Thanks........Hey Darren......If I have a broken wire in the inside of the ACE,, But I still get sound without the headset being on..does that mean I have a broken wire off the inside of the jack? Confused? Frustrated and I have come to realize how intimidating it is when I go out to MD and there are people watching and listening to me...It is like I get scared and dont get out of the truck cause I am making all this sound...
I acually like to go more at night and if I can get this to work on the headset...I can go in stealth mode and no one will here or see me at night..! I love going to golf courses at night after they close...!!!

It is possible, but there are a lot of things that could cause your problem. When you plug your adapter into the ace, does the sound stop coming out of the speaker? Since you have sound from the speaker without the headphones plugged in, the problem is most likely something simple. The plug acts as a switch as well as a connection, so that when the headphones are plugged in, it disconnects the speaker from the circuit. Have you tested your headphones to make sure they are good? If they test good, you may want to plug your computer's speakers into the adapter and that into the ace to see if you get sound output. Be sure to turn the volume down on the speakers first though, because the sound will go through an amp for the computer speakers. That should tell you if you are getting signal out of the detector. If you are, then the problem would have to be in your headphones. If not, there may be a problem with the plug itself.

Here are a few things to try. Are your batteries good/new? Have you tried your headphones on something else (CD player, computer, stereo, etc...) to see if they are working? Do you have something else you can try the adaptor on to see if it is working? If you look at the inside of the headphone jack on your detector is something lodged in it like a piece of grass, etc? Just some things to look at. If all else fails you can always contact Garrett as I'm sure they would be more than willing to help you troubleshoot this issue.
