Ace 250/GTI 2500 ?

I am finally ready to get my MD, here is the problem. I know after reading in here that on soil with a lot of mineralization I will need a ground balance feature. I called kellyko and asked about Texas soil and he told me the ACE would have a hard time down here and I want to make sure he's not trying to sell me, because he knows I asked about the 2500. The soil here is clay in most spots and if not clay then sand and I will be doing some beach hunting on South Padre Island (oh I did not tell you I am in deep south Texas, 10 minutes from the River Deep working for the Government is not so great all the time;) )I put the GTI 2500 in the heading because I also read in here that its a good all around machine and I will be heading back to Florida, maybe as soon as next year. Any help would be great thanks in advance

The 1350 has salt elimination and auto ground balance that will outshine the 250 in your area. You may check out the 1500 also if you want more bells and whistles. The 2500 would cover it all, if you don't mind spending that much.

You gotta watch those salesmen!! Think about it, Garretts are made in Texas!! I live just outside of Austin and have roamed around some and haven't found a place any of my Garretts won't perform nicely!! As far as beaches, check out the stuff Ian finds with his 150(same basic machine with fewer modes and no pinpoint). The learning curve on the 2500 can be quite daunting, even for the experienced hunter. Get a little 250, get out with it and have some fun. You can always upgrade later on. Be sure to get some decent headphones with volume control and a sniper coil for those trashy spots.

That's not the first time they have told prospective
buyers that.. I don't agree really. I'm running a
250 in clay gumbo around the Houston area, and I
haven't had any problems. But I've never tried it
on the beach, so I can't comment about that yet.
But I hear they do ok on the beach as long as you
stay out of the water. They seem to do fine in dry
sand. Water seems to make them false more, but thats
just hearsay from what I've heard..
A 2500 is overkill for a starter box. It's a good
machine, but I think a tad much if you are just
starting out. Not cuz it's harder to use, but mainly
cuz it costs quite a bit more. Myself, I wasn't willing
to take that big a plunge for a starter kit.
But, if you have money to burn...go for it..
The 250 will do well, and it costs way less than the
2500. You can buy a 250, and then the two extra coils,
a pinpointer, diggers, etc, etc, and still be way less
than a 2500. And the 250 with all the coils is pretty
versatile. You are good to go no matter what type of
hunting. IE: open relic hunting, vs trashy coin popping,
etc.. The 250 with the sniper coil is a coin vac around
trash.
Even people that own them both, often still use the 250's
cuz they are so light and easy to use. That tells me
they couldn't be too bad in comparison, or most all would
stick the 250's in the closet and use the 2500's only..
For the price, you can't go wrong on the 250. And if in
the off chance it's a dud in your location, they are
easy to sell. Quite a demand for them.. But I really don't
think you would have much problem with it.

Dick from IA and Big Cat Daddy thank you both for the info Big I spoke to Arturo and he said while he has not tried it at the beach, his 250 does fine in south Texas soil. Also thanks to all who sent a reply Hightone, John-Edmonton, and NM5K. Looks like I'll be sending out for the ACE 250 with the sniper coil, the wife and kids are as excited as I am!! Don't get alot of family time in my line of work, and this hobby will let me spend quality time with them all.

If you are new to detecting I would go with the 250. The 2500 is a real bundle for the novice to handle. There are scads of Texas hunters on the forums who are happy as clams with their 250's. If it doesn't float your boat you can sell it in a heart beat as everyone is looking for one.

Uncle Willy think you are right looked at the manuel today for the GTI while I think I could figure it out looks like alot to take in. I do have a question, does that treasure hound eagle eye thing work or is it just another Long Range Detector like scam. I only ask because the thing says 15-20 ft down that seems like alot unless your using GPR.

Yeah the Eagle Eye works. It's just like any other two-box detector for locating large, deep objects. It's not for coin shooting. :heh:
