ACE 250 gold question

I have been MD for a short time now (probably less than 20 hours) and I'm wondering if someone can define how I can know if I am on gold with an ACE 250. I dig almost everything, but I end up with lots of iron and junk metal. Will gold ring repeatedly like coins or just sound a dull beep like iron? I'm a bit frustrated. I read the forums and have gotten some good info on MD in general, but was hoping another ACE 250 user could provide some advice on this machine. Thanks in advance!

Well you have to run your coil over a piece of gold first. I haven't picked up any small gold with my 250, but I have hit a couple of 10k class rings. They came in nickel/pull tab. I was hesitant on the first one I found because I figured "pull tab". But it gave a "larger buzz" type sound that made me curious. Glad I checked. If looking for gold, dig 'em all. Ron.

Thanks, Ron. I'll dig through my wife's jewelry box and experiment so I can get a feel for the gold "buzz."

If you want gold, the majority of it will fall in the foil range. That represents the majority of women's jewelry.

Men's jewelry and larger women's jewelry will fall in the pull tab range.

A few pieces might fall in the nickel range.

Choose your locations for hunting jewelry carefully. Locations are critical when hunting for gold.

That's because no matter what you are dig a lot trash targets.

Good luck to you.

This is not mime: gold is inside the trash no matter how much you invest for this hobby so you have to dig everything that doesn't sound clearly as iron.

I agree with what the others said. I just pulled a
10k Gold ring today and it was in the foil/pull tab range. I know
it's a pain in the back side but you really do have to dig everything.
I pulled the ring today with my Ace 350 but I have also found them
with the Ace 250 as well.

I have been hunting jewelry a long time and I totally agree with CladDogs answer.
You must have a lot of patience and know that if you pay your dues by digging all
in the range you select you will find gold jewelry, It's not like coin hunting in my opinion.
There's a whole lot of trash mixed in with the gold jewelry. That's probably the reason
there are many more coin hunters than jewelry hunters on dry land. If you do decide to
be a jewelry hunter chances are you will be digging targets which others will not. I like
hunting sports fields after the coin hunters have been there. They can have the coins
so I can have more time digging potential jewelry targets.
Best of luck in your searches !

You might want to try scanning over a gold ring on top of the ground and
see how it reacts on your detector screen. Just make sure the area is
clear of all targets before you put the ring down for testing. Should ring
up pretty steady I am thinking. Most small ladies rings are in the foil range.
If you go after the foil range though you will be digging a whole lot of foil.
You won't believe how much foil is in the ground. If the signal bounces wildly
from high to low back and forth it's probably not anything good. No guarantee
but probably not any good. Just got to play the odds. Hope this might help some.

Thanks again for all the advice. Patience, attention to tones, and dig everything is my new strategy. Can't wait to get out this weekend!

Mike

I do too.. Foil, pull tab, and nickle range most often.
But being as gold or rings/jewelry are no set size, nothing is etched in stone,
and can vary some.. But most gold won't be banging up into the coin ranges,
nor down low with the iron. Usually around the middle ranges.
Didn't someone once say, to dig a lot of gold, you will usually have to put up
with digging a lot of pull tabs and such..

I totally agree with everyone about digging everything...even pull tab. I would have missed a 1942 10k class ring if I hadn't dug that pull tab signal. I run my 250 in jewelry mode 90%of the time.

Thanks again for all the info. Heading to the beach tomorrow for three days and may just try only the jewelry mode for a while to get a feel for what to dig and what not to dig. Will definitely post any goodies I find.
