Ace 250 Garrett and AT-Pro and ground balance

I had a ace 250 didn't use it much now I have a pro. Why does the pro have ground balancing whereas the 250 doesn't? How does the ground balance feature help me now when I didn't have it before?

Your Ace had its GB preset at the factory. With the ACE series you are stuck with whatever GB Garrett thought was a good overall average GB for mineralization the ACE would encounter in the majority of the area it would be sold in........The Pro is adjustable either automatically or manually for current on the spot mineralization conditions.......you had it (GB) before on the Ace you just apparently didn't know it, and had no control over the factory preset.

As per the At Pro manual "Detector performance can be negatively affected by ground mineralization. The AT Pro can be ground balanced either
automatically or manually to cancel unwanted ground signals and obtain maximum stability and target detection."

Ground balancing will allow better performance such as stability, depth, identification of targets just to name a few in areas where the ACE might struggle a little.

I once saw someone on the forum describe GB as just another form of discrimination/notching. Removes unwanted signals due to mineralization.

Our soil up here in Central NY, is not highly mineralized...My AT Pro GBs at an average of 85-89 most of the time...if I read the manual right, Salt water GBs low end of scale, Non-Mineralized soil on the high end...a Proper GB will give you maximum depth and eliminate falsing due to ground mineralization...
