I JUST BOUGHT A GARRETT ACE 250 A FEW MONTHS AGO TO REPLACE MY OLD COMPASS RELIC MAGNUM, I HAVE ONLY USED IT FOR COIN HUNTING SO FAR AND I AM PLEASED WITH IT IN THAT ASPECT BUT WAS WONDERING IF ANY OF YALL USE THIS MACHINE FOR RELIC HUNTING ?
THANKS, BILL IN N.C.

I have never used a Garrett Ace 250 for relic hunting. While not noted as a relic machine, I have no doubt it would suffice if you kept the discrimination turned down. Most relic hunters don't need a fine tuned, deep seeking detector like coin shooters or prospectors might require. Many of the targets you will be seeking are of the ferrous type and in the larger sizes which will make any detector sing, whereas coin shooters and prospectors are more concerned with non-ferrous metals and their targets are smaller, dimes, nickles and pennies. I might add when using your Ace 250 for relics make sure you have your largest coil on your machine to get maximum depth. I am not sure whether the Ace 250 shows conductivity numbers or not, TDI, but bullets, buckles, buttons and crotal bells will throw out a whole different set of numbers than will quarters and dimes.

Used an ace 250 in the woods once or twice, did find some large cents in the woods but only because they where very close to the surface- I was in the right place at the right time-however would think its best for city parks etc. Of course even in the city it would find all kinds of things beside coins but not too deep. Having used other higher end machines the 250 just doesnt seem to offer the sophistication of the others. By the way I have a relic magnum six still in the basement- Im sure the 250 is an amazing upgrade in usability , portability, etc. My magnum took 12 AA batteries and weighed a ton.-I modified it years ago to put the electronics in a back pack and used a broom handle to extend the shaft. Tried to fire it up this year but it was dead silent.- I remember finding coins at 10" deep with that thing at least 25 years ago. Good luck. CO

The 250 is an excellent relic machince for woodsy non trashy areas especialy if you are digging iron, provided the targets arent more than 4-5 inches deep.

:usaflag:I have found relics with my Ace 250 at 10".....but mostly by mistake because I generally only look for coins.
