ace 250 depth

New member
Ok all you ace users i have a question. Yesterday i detected three old sites that have seen a fair amount of use for a couple hundred years or more. Anyway i did not find any thing deeper than about three inches. Tried stock and sniper coils in coin mode. In air tests i get ten inches on a quarter. The ground is not real hot. What kind of results has everyone else gotten? Thank you all for any input. By the way i am in north central new mexico

maybe all that bomb testing in the 50's and 60's ruined your soil.

The type of ground and weather conditions can play a big part in how far down things get. Up here we've found Indian head pennies at 3 inches in one area, and modern clad at 8 inches in another.

Sawman, is your sensitivity set low? I used my ace 250 most of the season last year and was getting 6-7 inches average with the stock coil and 6 inches easy with my sniper. what kind of #s do you get with a bench test on differant Items. are you running your coil close to the ground? every inch above the ground is an inch off your ground depth. Some of the guys/gals on here can probably help you out.3 inches ain't much depth. UNCLE WILLIE!!!

I tried my sensetivity at about half up to max. I try to keep the coil just above the ground and my soil is not very mineralized. At higher sensetivity seemed to get a lot of falsing. Thank you guys for the input.

What coil were you using?
After I use my standard 6x9 coil I put the 9x12 coil on and will find
the deeper stuff. If you don't have the 9x12 you might want to invest
in one. No telling what your missing. The 9x12 is good around old home
steads but don't use it in the ball fields or soccer fields. All you'll find there
is iron and old rusted can. Now if you happen to be in an old town where
were really OLD parks and not these moden days one you might do ok with
a 9x12.
