Ace 250 beach /shallow saltwater

detectorace

New member
Hi guys.
just wonder if my ace 250 could be used in a saltwater beach and in the shallov water.
I think it will work at beaches, but not if it will in shallow water.
Never done this kind of hunting before but i like to try.
I woul also be thankful if someone could tell me were i could by a cheap sand scoop.
PS.
I live in Norway so they have to do international shipping.

from what i understand the double D coil does not like the salt water and should not be in it. the salt water has to much minerals in it and can give off bad readings that's what i got out of the book and video .. as far as the scoop go's i made mine out of some perforated steal i haven't tryed it out yet butt it should work for the sand we have in so CAL. happy hunting

I've never hunted in salt water, and the only scoop I ever had is the one I bought a couple weeks ago. Having said that, a cheap scoop could let you down and cost you more money in the long run than a quality scoop that will be there for you every time you need it.

Hi thanks for your replys.
I found this video on youtube:

and i will try theese settings,i also bought a sand scoop on ebay from this seller :

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SAND-SCOOP-/140898853162?pt=US_Metal_Detector_Accessories&hash=item20ce39e12a

And i must say that this is a very pleasant seller to deal with, very reasonable shipping to Norway were i live.
A couple a years ago there was a tread here about saltwater detecting with ace 250,but i cant find it .

And for the record,im saving up for a garret seahunter mark 2 but it will take a few more months.
Best regards.

I have used my 350 on the wet saltwater beach, but have never found anything deeper than a couple inches. There is a lot of black sand and it will false alot. I ordered the AT Pro for the wet sand and surf.

The problem is that (all single freq detectors) just do OK, in wet salt sand ....... The Sea hunter mark 2 would work way better for wet salt sand hunting, but the single freq detector would work better for dry sand hunting.

i went to the long beach on Xmas's day with my ace 350 like rob says their is a lot of black sand i turned down the sensitivity to three or four and it did OK any higher it would just sound off witch is what it will do with lots of iron in the ground. i found some Penny's and quarters and lots of bottle caps that sounded off as quarters in every mode i try ed it in . i hunted in jewelry for the most part when i went to balboa beach i was able to turn up the sensitivity to six. less iron i think , when i hunted in A.M. mode i found a few iron pockets witch was a good learning experience for me. the 350 can be ultra sensitive.. does any one know who i should ask for when i call Garrett ? this thing still sounds off sometimes in pinpoint over my head when I'm in the middle of no ware , no power lines nothen like that . . i did find out that i have to bush the pin point butten with a light finger if i push it like the other buttens it may sound off with a very low tone and no icons will light up . thanks thanks thanks for every ones help i don't know if I'm trying to learn this stuff with a bad detector or not :nopity:

Now I guess I am cheap. I went to the local farm supply and bought a plastic grain scoop, then drilled holes in it so the sand could be shaken out.

Works great in dry sand, not so good in wet. By it being plastic you can use the 'tector to check that your target is in it.

Cost $4 to $5 if I remember right.

Finally my seahunter is ordered and on it's way.:clapping:
I'm looking forward to do some serious deteting with it,i got some beaches marked out.
But one question,i think i know about a place that contains german ww2 stuff.
It's to deep for ordinary detectors i think, but would the seahunter work good and deep on dry land?
It's a dumping site for german equipment that were thrown away after the war
Nothing dangerous.
thanks in advance.:detecting::garrett:

Well,my Garrett seahunter finally came in and i had my first outing
yesterday.
I went to a place nearby that was easy to get to just to try it out and perhaps learn something.
The seahunter did well and found me some rust:detecting: and also a small plate with lead.
The conditions were not very good since there was a lot of ice flakes
i had to kick away while detecting.
My findings were one rusted metal plate (4"+2" aprox.) one lead plate (1"+2,5" aprox.)+one nail.
i had several signals but since the ice flakes were moving back an forth
i couldn't dig them.
But the main reason was to test and learn.
What i diden't understand fully was the treshold adjustment,i tryed two settings there, one i turned the nob until the audio faded away and one were i turned it down til just befor the audio dissapared.
Which one would be correct?
Would appritiate wery much if anyone has a easy to understand explenation to give.
Regards
