Ace 250 and I'm dumb make me smart.

As I jogged this morning I was thinking about a detector I could buy to bring with me to far away lands and have the locals give me places to hunt and bring them along and have an extra detector for them to join me. The Ace 250 immediately came to mind, because of price and simplicity of operation. But for the life of me I do not understand what all the hype is about this machine, not owning one myself. I have a GTI2500 currently. Please give me specifics why this machine is so good. If I'm correct in my thinking this machine is pound for pound the best machine per dollar on the market?

It's pretty simple really. It's cheap, light, and actually finds the metal.
For $212 , I think it's the best you can get at that price. So far no one
has shown me one for the same price that is better.
Course, your 2500 would outdo it, but it cost a good bit more.
Bang for the buck? It would have to be at or near the top I think.
Course, a lot is the operator, but even a good op will fail if the machine
is a toy. The 250 is no toy. I had one of the old radio shack machines
years ago. *That* was a toy..

My previous detectors were the top of the line for detectors at the time. I had not been active for several years. When I decided to get back into the hobby I was looking for a good entry level machine that wasn't a toy. I ended up with the ACE250 and have been very satisfied. It is simple so that novices and casual users can find coins and jewlery with just a small amount of instruction and practice. As far as I am concerned it is the best detector on the market for the money.

Far off lands?? The only complaint that I hear (I said hear not have) Is the lack of ground balance. I do not have that problem in Tennessee. I have a friend in the Northwest and he had problems with the ground. I say buy the ACE. I have gotten many folks to but one as a first detector for them. It is not a toy and I have many great finds with mine. As a far as traveling with it, It breaks down into 3 sections, and is great for that. Hey and 40 hours on 4-AA ain't bad.

The ACe 250 is justa nice beginners detector. It can do what the more expensive machines
can do without all the bells and whistles. If you have the 2500 keep it, but you might like to get
the Ace as a back up.

I am thinking about buying my lady friend an Ace 250 but I am not to sure how mineralised the ground is here. I live in Southwest Lower Michigan. I am not sure it would be a good machine choice wothout Ground balance.

Because Garrett took a $200 package and put an $800 machine inside it. This caught the competition by surprise and they're still trying to catch up.

Let me put it this way: you can use all-metal and still ID everything: or slip to relics and get rid of the nails, hairpins, etc, and Still ID it;or go to custom and set where it will only find an item in the range you want ,or get RID of a pesky item that is constantly annoying;or put it in coins when you hit a nasty pulltab-infested area and just listen for the beeps;;or you can put it in jewelry so you won't have to listen to the large iron tones in relics and still get most small gold rings-with a huge battery life. The drawback? It's so cute (yeller feller) that it attracts a lot of attention.:detecting:
