Ace 150 vs Ace 250

How much better is the 250? I have 2 150's for my boys and my new 250 will be here in the next few days. Any tips on getting started with my new 250? I also have the GTA 350......but after reading all the 250 threads, I just had to get me a 250.

"More" would probably be the better word. With the pinpoint button you can "size" the target-got this tip from another forum post. You may be a little disappointed in the pinpoint feature, but it can be easy if you just lift the coil 10-12" and pinpoint from above the coin. The signal is "V" shaped and the tip of the cone at this height makes pinpointing a snap-at least for me,and BTW, there are more pinpointing tips, but this works for me. Sometimes you want to have just enough discrimination to rule out iron but get everything above it and the relic mode makes this nice-as a matter of fact, you can program any of the programs any way you want. Which means that if you wanted to find an object's double, you can notch out everything but it, and save time-Nice! Other than that, there's not much difference-but those small differences can be nice under the right circumstances. One little tip-run the sensitivity at 3-4 bars to start out with. If the 150 is like the 250 in that respect, then you know how hyper the Ace's can be in trashy areas.

I suspect the Ace 150 and the 250 share the same board; Garrett just "opens up" the rest of the features on the 250.
you like the 150, youll like the 250.

The only real difference is the pinpointing vs. non-pinpointing, and some extra programs on the ACE 250. To decrease the frustration associated with learning a metal detector, the ACE 250 might be the better choice. However, should you just use the sniper coil, which would really make it easy to learn the machine, the ACE 150 would be sufficient. Because the sniper coil is so small, it is very easy to pinpoint a target just make X's over it. Another option would be to get one of each, one with the stock size coil, one with the sniper coil.

Either way, I bet they have a lot of fun. And....if you post their finds, I bet they will be really smiling when they see all the comments they get for their finds.

The 250 has pinpointing which is a real plus. It also has a few more features. As John mentioned, using the Sniper coil on the 150 makes pinpointing a snap with that machine.

Bill.

ALmost everyone who has bought the Ace 150 upgrades to the 250. If the posts on the MD forums are any indicator, only a handful of 150 owners are happy with the machine. You probably better off spending the extra $50 dollars and getting the 250. Also consider that so many people have difficulty pinpointing with the Ace, why take the chance of compounding that problem by getting a detector withour a pinpoint mode.
Get the Ace 250; you'll be a happer camper!
