Ace 150 instability?

Hello everyone,

I have a question about the Ace 150. I bought one for my son and it is doing some things I don't understand. Just today at a local park it signaled a coin constantly, no matter where we moved the coil over the ground. It just kept going off no matter what. Sensitivity was at 2 bars and it was in jewelry mode. I checked the area that was making the 150 sound off with my Tesoro Vaquero and I didn't get a sound. Also I've noticed that quite often it will sound on ordinary rocks and again when checked with my Tesoro I get no signal. It also makes a very soft high-pitched sound coming out of the control box when it is on. Do you think I should send it in to Garrett and have it checked?

Thanks

Does sound odd...

If all the usual quick fix attempts don't work, you should CALL garrett and see what they say.

Unless you purchased from a local dealer. even better to ask him!

I Just Bought my ace 250 last month and the 2nd time out the coil went bad and did the same thing Garrett replace it and it's working great . Later Graw :yo:

I think I would try another set of batteries, even if the ones in it are
fairly new. Also make sure the coil wire connectors are tight.
The high pitched hum from the control head is normal.
Also, I doubt this is the problem, but if you have a coil cover,
make sure it's clean and no dirt/metal particles are between it and
the coil. Also, for added stability, run the coil cable up straight about
a foot above the coil in a straight line, and tie it down with the cable
tie, and then normally coil the cable the rest of the way up to the head.
I've had the runaway chatter happen once or twice on my 250.
But it always went away when I put new batteries in it.. And nope,
the older batteries were not totally dead yet..
It could have been just the "reset" of adding new batteries cured the
problem, but I'm not sure. BTW, make sure no other detectors or
pinpointers are close to the 150 when hunting.. That can cause
chatter, as well as any close strong RF fields.
If all fails, I would send it back to Garrett.

If you've tried all the obvious email melinda.harper@garrett.com and they will take care of it. It may be a faulty coil. It happens.
