Accuracy of depth readings

When using the 5 inch coil on my Explorer SE how deep will it read and how accurate is the depth reading on the display? Thanks in advance.

I don't have a 5" coil...but I do use the 6" excelerator quite a bit.
How deep it will read will depend on many variables from ground conditions to trash content.

My own personal experience with the 6" coil has been finding coins as deep as 9"...and the depth reading was quite accurate.

Of course there were a few of those coins that registered as "deep" on the meter...then they were found at about 4"??
Not sure what causes that...but it happens with all coils I use. About 1 out of every 5 coins will be way off on depth when I dig them.
Take care...and I'm sure others will have more to add.
