Accessory Recommendations

Hi There.
I posted a few days ago about buying a used MXT. Well, I just picked it and now I need to accessorize.
It came with the 9.5 eclipse and looking for recommendations for another coil for general purposes. Maybe I don

For a general use coil it's pretty hard to beat the 5.3 or the 6X10 in my opinion. The 5.3 is much better in trash than the 9.5 and nearly as deep. The 6X10 is pretty good in trash, many use it as a general hunting coil and it is well thought of for nugget hunting, also. I use Gray Ghost headphones on all my detectors as they're comfortable (for my head) block outside noise very well and I'm used to their tone. I haven't tried all of the other higher end phones, but from what I've read in the forums leads me to think that they all are good, just a matter of what's comfortable with a tone that pleases YOU. I do know the ghosts are much cleaner, crisper sounding than the cheapies I started with. I think you'll really like the MXT when you get to know it. When hunting, set the threshold to just audible. That's enough - you'll hear it null out whenever the coil passes over targets that are discriminated out which tells you there is metal there, but not what you've set the machine to accept.
Have fun,
BB

Thanks for the feedback.
While I was waiting I went ahead and ordered a 6" Excellerator. That'll do me for now until I learn more I think.
Also bought a set of Black Widow head phones.

if you are going after gold , you will need the dd coils , get the 6x10 & the 4x6 shooter to use in gold fields , they will work great in trash lots & beach & great over all coils , the mxt is great , & black widows will work fine & get the book the mxt edge by Jeff foster , the machine will tell you whats in the ground , you just have to under stand it ,, hh..

The 6" Excellerator is a excellent coil with great target separation and good depth. This coil teamed with your MXT should be Hot set up for nuggets. I use this coil most of the time and I am very pleased with the results. As far as head phones go it's a matter of personal choice. A few club members I hunt with use Black Widow's and they seem comfortable and well made. I use Rat Phones and Koss UR 30's.

i use a 6 x 10 dd coil & koss ur30 headphones for my nugget hunting
the dd coil will handle hot ground & is hot on nuggets
its the only coil on the end of my shaft i love it
good hunting

Nancy reccomended a Sunray DX-1 probe and It is fantastic. It is like having a miniature 2nd detector. I too highly reccomend it. It will add weight to the unit but fashion yourself a swingy thingy out of suspenders and you will be good to go.:detecting:

So I googled the Sunray DX-1 and found some reviews but never found a seller.
Didn't see it offered at Kelly's or any other retailer I found anyway.

My Larry sells them. You can contact him for a price. Larry (IL) here on the forum. Call the number for a price quote and he'll give you a good price that's on the banner for Central Illiois Detectors. I swore by them way before he started selling them. Hope that helps. Nancy

We do a little better than that and shipped free USPS Priority mail too.
