Read in the local want ads where a man had lost a gold ring. He says it could have been while he was out shopping or perhaps in his yard. I called him and he was very happy to have me search his yard next week when it hopefully stops raining. I'm new at using the Etrac and was wondering if anyone has advice on setting up the Etrac for such a search. He said the ring's "not very big" but has engraving and a symbol on it. I'm guessing it's big wedding band size but not sure.
Thanks...
If the ring was lost rather recently, I would turn your sensitivity way down, say to 5. This way you won't waste your time on deeper targets. If its in the yard, it should be right on top and should not have had the chance to make it into the ground. If it has entered the soil, it probably will be right at the top either way. I would jut run the stock coins program as this will certainly find it if its there and this way you won't modify anything to miss it. I only say this because you said you are new to the E-Trac. Running stock coins, with a manual sensitivity of 5, should find it for you. I hope it is there and I hope you find. Please keep us informed and good luck. HH -Marc
dig everything with low to mid conductive numbers paying special attention to double or even triple beep targets, and I agree about sens... turn it down
I searched for a ring a lady dropped last year in a particular spot she was sure of...for three days...then SHE found it 20 miles from where I was looking on her front steps once the snow melted. Good thing she called and told me. Lesson learned, "Are you 100 percent SURE this is the spot?"

Good tips. I would add one more thing, you really need to know how small or what size. some samll gold rings do not come in well on the E trac. If you knew the K 10K? 14K would help as well. Try to locate a ring of similar size and K and then check it on you machine. I have found almost 100 gold rings now so I tell you with experiance that the small gold rings do NOT read well and everything you can do to get some sampeling practice is good.
Shucks, he mowed his yard and found the ring. I had planned on hunting it Friday but he as very appreciative of the offer anyway. Thanks for all the advice. I had practiced a little in a park running sensitivity at 5 and digging only sigs my propointer could see...

If I had lost a gold ring in my yard, I would not have mowed it until I found the ring. You know what a mower can do to a gold ring. Unless of course, I spend weeks trying to find the ring and the grass is now 2 feet tall.
