About Time for a new model Tesoro

Rumor has it they are releasing a new model with another knob. Just kidding

I'd like to see Tesoro put out a top-gun contender. I think they have the other areas pretty well covered.

I want a Pulse Induction unit for Gold! From gold nuggets in the goldfields of Central Arizona, to the white sand Atlantic beaches of Long Island, NY! Right now I use the Lobo SuperTRAQ as my only VLF machine. I want an Arizona made PI unit that will punch like a Minelab. Come on Vince, I KNOW you can do it! - Terry

after seeing what a one-knob detector can do, I just don't care for now about new models

The GPX 5000 is about as big of a punch presently available in a P.I unit, so is the price. Although not marketed as a (gold machine) Try the sand shark for nugget hunting, very sensitive to small gold and is waterproof, it can be easily belt mounted and as far as I know its the only P.I with a V.C.O , very cool for pinpointing small stuff

Terry,

I've read that most minelabs old patents have expired, you may get your wish . . . I have dug many 3 foot holes for trash with a ML3500 . . . . . I'd be happy if Tesoro just made a PI unit for gold (1/3 the weight of a 5000) that went down (say)18 inches (with multiple coils) to complement the VLF Super LOBO in there MDing line.

Do you use this machine? I have been thinking about it as a beach hunter - Terry

Yes I use the 5000 and it does go deep, but digging 18-25 inch holes gets old fast, most good stuff (coins-jewelry) is found closer to the surface-My experience is that more iron is found deeper-nails-bolts ect. That would be searching near the water- dunes or sand bars is another story. With the pulse machines it's a dig all or miss a good find, the VLF Tiger Shark has some discrimination so it may be easier for some folks to handle with out getting to frustrated

Sorry, I meant do you have a Tiger Shark. I'm thinking about getting one for the beaches on Long Island, NY - Terry

What settings do you use on the ML 5000 while beach hunting? - Thanks - Terry

I use the DD commander coil and iron reject @ 10 full if things are trashy, fixed trac, general search, audio normal, coin - relic, I try not to over do the gain so the threshold is smooth, I find that I can hear the subtle changes easier, if I want chatty I can use the MXT . I'm use to hearing very slight threshold changes when gold hounding and coin/jewelry hunting is a breeze comparatively speaking. The iron reject works very well, I don't mind the near misses on some targets because there so deep not to may people will find them anyway

Most of the manufacturers seem to be kind of in a "holding pattern" these days. It's not like it used to be for most where they were coming out with new models all the time. I'd say honestly about the only exception is First Texas in terms of a lot of new models lately. Minelab hasn't done anything since Etrac. White's has their V machines. For the most part innovation seems to have slowed down for a lot of manufacturers.

If Tesoro WERE to be doing changes (and I guess only they know if they are), here's what I'd like to see for the Cortes. I'd like the ground balance to work in discrimination mode. I'd like a multi-tone option for discriminate mode as well (instead of just for SUM mode). I'd like to see a wider range of target ID numbers on the top end as well rather than 95 for most coins.

But I'm not holding my breath, even though I'm sure countless people have asked for the same features. Honestly a lot of the manufacturers just seem to be sitting back and taking profits and hanging on in this never ending terrible economy we have. Just my 2 cents.

I just bought a new Golden U max, and it may be just my imagination, but I think it is a bit "hotter" than the one I had 8 years ago...tones have been re-arranged too....point I'm making is, I dont think the guys at Tesoro are just sitting on their hands, they seem to be doing stuff to the current range...I like the Golden, and will be familiarising myself with it over the next months...HH

I sure wish some would explain the differences in detail between the new Golden and the old Golden. I heard that nickel now beeps in the mid-high tone range. Where are the zinc pennies in the tones now and how does the notch work with the new arrangement?

Yeah they make little changes like changing the tones, that's really not a big change for them to make, honestly, if they engineered it right (which I'm sure they did). But I don't know, I guess I would just say that they really are not coming out with new models of detectors or really ANYTHING in terms of new technology. That seems to be the case for most manufacturers these days - it's kind of like we reached a plateau, and you can't really go any higher in a cost effective way. Kind of like computer CPUs, they can't really make them a lot faster using current technology due to heat issues, so they just add more CPUs together to split the workload to get better performance. But I last bought a computer over 2 years ago, and I'm not sure if this is good or bad, but most of the new stuff isn't much faster. 5 years ago that would have been unthinkable.

Plus having a near Depression level economy for 3 1/2 years now doesn't help I'm sure. No end in sight to that, but that's a whole different matter. So that might play a part in it too. It costs money to develop new technology, and bring it to market.

keeping the costs down is a smart move currently more people can afford a high tech quality made machine at Tesoro prices. With the high price of gold more people will jump in at a lower priced Tesoro with dreams of getting rich fast using a metal detector...........more Tesoros will be purchased, more profits

You know that reminds me, in the early 70s, I had I believe a Radio Shack? machine, all white, with only a red light that came on when you passed the coil over metal. Nothing more than a cheap toy, it must have been BFO having been made then. Anyone ever see one of these?
