About those SunRay probes...

I have been trying to justify buying one for my MXT. I understand they get a depth of around 3".
Alot of times when I'm hunting at max. sensitivity I get small bits of foil near the surface that reads as a good target that's deep. Would one of these probes pick it up? If so, it would eliminate the possibility of a deep coin, and eliminate the need to dig for something that isn't there.
Any thoughts along these lines?

Scott,
What the detector picks up, so will the probe. That's the beauty of the having this probe. Expecially on shallow targets just like foil or any other piece of small aluminum or ferrous object. When I know I have a shallow target, all I do is bend over, us the probe on top of the ground, don't even cut a plug. Just stick my knife in ground 1 to 2 inches and pop out the object. That's why I got one, just to speed up the recovery process. I highly recommend getting one. You will notice your recovery time will speed up dramatically and give you more time to hunt. <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin">

that if you dig a deep hole, and still haven't recovered the target, you can isolate where, in the hole, the target is and avoid damage to it by having this information. Once you use a SunRay probe, you probably always will. The rest are mere toys in comparison.
Good Hunting,

You will NOT ever give it up once you have one---There have been a few upgrades in last 5 Mo,I know there is A better CORD (Lots Better) than the cords on earier ones---If your cord doesNOT have a curly on the end next to the box--You then have the newer one--Heard the control box was changed also---no change to the software (that I know about) The only thing better than the DX1 is the detector you put it on---I think the DX1 is the BEST extra accessary tool thats EVER been put out---I still have a hard time beleiving how good it is, every time I hunt I look FORWARD to hunting because it makes finding the target so D-- easy-----DeathWind1

Scott,
I can only echo the sentiments of the others. This is on par with my cutting tool as the most useful accessory I use in detecting. I originally had the earlier coil which interfered with its function, but Sunray kindly replaced it with the newer cord. Now that it works as intended, it's an incredible tool. Once you use this for a while, you will entirely forget the money you spent on it. I would never go back to using another type of pinpointer.
HH,
Dan
