About the X-Terra book.......

Digger

Staff member
I've commented on several occasions that I was compiling a book to help X-Terra users better understand their detectors. After many months of compiling the information, weighing the option of paper copies vs electronic publishing, educating myself on copyright laws and considering whether or not I wanted to "partner up" to assist with expenses involved in publishing and distributing, I've made a decision...........I am posting the bulk of the written information here on the X-Terra forum, free of charge, for anyone to read. This new article, entitled "Understanding the X-Terra", will be posted as a "sticky" near the top of these posts. In a few weeks, I will remove the "sticky" and place a link to it in our FAQFAQ section. Once the weather warms up, I intend to post video of some the techniques (harmonics, wrap around, narrow audio response, etc.) that are very difficult to put into words.

As to the article......Individuals are welcome to print it out for personal use. Afterall, that is the reason I wrote it. To those dealers and the few individuals who have "borrowed" articles from me in the past........although this article is electronic, it is Copyrighted. As such, copying it and attempting to pass it off as your own will not be tolerated. If you don't have written permission from me, it is called piracy. I figure if I am willing to write the article and give it away, there is no reason anyone else should expect to profit from it.

There are several reasons I have decided to post this article to the forum. The most important reason, however, is because this is how I view this hobby. I enjoy the time I spend in the field as well as the time I spend writing about those experiences. I enjoy the competitive spirit that my brother and I take with us, every time we go detecting. I enjoy sharing thoughts and opinions with others having similar interests. I metal detect for enjoyment, not for profit. That is just my philosophy. If my sharing this article helps any of you to better understand that philosophy, then my efforts have been successful.

In closing, thanks to those who have kept in close contact with me regarding this article. Without your encouragement, I may have lost the motivation required to complete it. And thanks to the folks at Minelab for producing the X-Terra, and for reviewing the information contained in this article.

HH Randy

Thank you Randy. I can say from my (and my sons) personal experience, the advice, input and knowledge you have offered this forum and its users has been phenomenal. I can see why there may be as many metal detectors as golf clubs sitting in closets around the country, gathering dust from lack of use. This is a fantastic hobby, but can be frustrating to say the least. But, to have a forum such as this, and folks like you that give sound practical help adds so much to the hobby, and the joy we get out of it. Thank you.

Just printed it off so I can read it better and keep for a reference --- a super job well done Randy!!!

Thanks much - Hawkeye Jim.

Thanx

Fantastic Randy!:clapping:
I'm looking forward to reading it and seeing the video footage. Like you said, some things are better shown, than written about.
The X-Terra was the first detector that I was really successful with, so it will always remain a detector that I will be fond of.

Thanks Randy for the unbelievable work that you have done in the past and are continuing to do on the xterras. You and Bill and some others on here are a valuable resource of knowledge. I am glad to see that you are appreciated here on this site. I have seen on other sites where some Authors don't even get a thank you and delete all their posts and quit a site. I have read a lot of your posts and am very interested to see your new work and videos. Thanks for all you do---------Craig B

As I've demonstrated many times, I'm not an author. I'm just a guy who has been metal detecting a LONG time, takes lots of notes along the way, and enjoys sharing the hobby with others. If I've been able to put words together that will help answer some of the questions you may have regarding the X-TERRA, then I've accomplished my objective. But with all that said, everyone likes to hear that their efforts are appreciated. Thanks again. HH Randy

Randy,

Well done on writing a long and extended document and I am certain that it will be of benefit to many who may have questions about some of the topice covered.

Many thanks

Good Hunting (when you do get out when it thaws and warms up)

Thanks for all that you both continue to do to help make the rest of us X-T users better at our craft. I known of no other site which has as much information available on it for setting up and using a particular brand of detector as what this forum has on using the X-T's. As more information comes out, I read it first before printing it out and keeping a copy in the side compartment of my metal detecting duffel bag for future reading. It's great having information available to refer back to without needing to get back on the computer again. Thanks again,

Thanks Randy...just made me a copy so that I can read it time and again. You sure make this hobby a lot simpler for everyone. TomB
