Salida, the AT Pro doesn't have an actual gold mode, however it is hot on gold in part because of it's 15kHz frequency. So, in essence, it will hit hard on gold rings and gold nuggets. It's also a great coin hunter and relic machine too. The AT Gold runs at an even slightly higher frequency of 18 khz, which would make it a bit more sensitive to even more tiny gold nuggets compared to the AT Gold. The AT Gold Also has a true all metal mode plus an adjustable threshold, to help even more with finding the tiniest nuggets. So....if you like electronic prospecting, looking for natural gold nuggets and search such places as streams deserts, the AT Gold might be the better choice. If you like all sorts of hunting, and look for gold rings at schools, parks, beaches, the AT Pro will be the better choice. The AT Pro can be used in salt water and wet sand. The AT Gold is not recommended to be used in such places. Hope this helps.
Below is a graph I put together to show the results of an air test using the AT Pro in Pro mode. I used various targets, including gold rings to show how sensitive it is, especially towards gold rings. I took each target, gave it a very fast sweep movement in front of the coil and measured the point in inches where I started to get a repeatable signal. The AT Gold would probably excel better on very tiny pieces of gold compared to the AT Gold, due to it's higher frequency of 18 kHz, it's deep seeking sensitive true all metal mode and ability to add a positive audio threshold.
