About MineLab

Hi :
For me this is one of those Ah ha! moments. Last night I sat down with MineLabs Product Catalogue and saw that on the very back they printed out a comparison chart. THIS cleared up a misconception that I had about MineLab. I was under the impression that when people talked about the superiour technology of the machines that it was advanced tech used by ALL MineLabs machines. I see that this is not the case.Several of the machines are standard VLF like most of the other metal detectors out there. The MPS and the DVT is apparently what everyone has been raving about. Unfortunately they are way out of my price range. But there is the BBS and the FBS. Now that I can afford.
Questions: Are the visual charts MineLab published misleading? When you look at them it appears you get twice the debth with BBA and FBS VS the other brand name machines out there. Now that sounds too good to be true. If my IDX Pro gets eight to nine inches or better, it's hard to believe I'm going to get sixteen to eighteen inches with MineLab.What is the average debth of the BBS and FBS machines?
Question: Regarding the MineLabs VLF machines Vs the other brand names like Whites, Garrett, etc, It would seem to me that in the VLF mode they will do no better or no worse. Is my conclusion mistaken? They all get eight, nine or better inches.
Your the experts. I would really appreciate your feedback before I rush out and Buy, buy, buy.
Thanks again.

Don't be fooled by the advertising hype and tales you hear about super depth with the XS. In air tests and perfect ground conditions maybe you would get these depths but in reality it is not so.
Sure it's the best machine available for target ID and separating the junk from the goodies but put a 10 inch coil on your other machines and you will get the same depth.

I had a Tesoro Cortes with a 1o x 12" coil and it wasn't anywhere as deep as My XS. I also ran the same coil on a Silver Sabre U-Max w/ manual ground balance modifcation and it too wasn't as deep. These are what I have actually witnessed, not just hear-say. I am in no way trashing Tesoro as they make a great line of detectors, they're IMO just not as deep as Minelab's Explorer XS! I have found as many wheaties in the past 1.5 months using my new XS as I did in the 15.5 months before it using 3 differnet detectors. I have also doubled my Silver finds too. Lots of these finds were in the 6-8" range and gave very strong signals.

I had it proven to me today again of the power and the depth on the Explorer XS. I was using my Sovereign and switched to my new Whites MXT with the large DD coil for the depth. One of the guys with the Explorer got a signal and thought it was a penny and ask me to see what I thought. I had the MXT on full sensitivity, no disc and still couldnt get a peep out of it. When dug it was a Wheat penny, thought maybe just a fluke as it should have seen it. Well a little while latter this happen again on another signal, the MXT got no signal at all and it was a IH penny at 9-10 inches.
Total for the couple of hours is I had 2 wheaties with the Sovereign, no old coins with the MXT. One of the guys with the Explorer has a 1924 merc, a silver rosie and 6 wheaties, the other Explorer had a silver rosie, 7 wheaties and 2 IH pennies. If we go back you know which detector i will use, the Explorer XS as it has the depth that is needed.
