about khz and detecting?

was wondering if the range of the khz on a detector makes a difference on how well it performs, I see some around the 6.5 range to 12.5 and I'm sure there are more just asking don't know.

That's just a basic explanation Sir..Much more to it than that..But for detecting that's what we view it as...
 
Generally speaking the higher the khz the more sensitive to smaller objects the detector is.The goldmax power is the machine that is favoured in England for finding the tiny thin hammered coins that we have and this runs at 18 khz.Also the Troy x5 is favoured for hammered coins and this runs at 19 khz.However this is where it gets slightly more complicated as lower frequency machines tend to penetrate deeper into the soil which seems to redress the balance a little.All i can say from personel experience is that i've had success with high and low frequency machines in equal measure and i'm happy to hunt with either.I have three machines at the moment,one runs at 13khz and the other two run at 14khz....all three seem to have good depth and are sensitive to the smaller stuff.This khz range seems to be a good comprimise between higher and lower frequency machines and is probably what i'll stick with.PS....one of the most successful detectorists in our club uses a whites xlt which runs at just over 6khz,another successful member runs a machine at 13 khz so i don't think the choice of frequency is a major factor concerning the ultimate performance of a metal detector...they will all pull up the goodies.
