Hey guys,

I just found an old butter knife from an old late 1800's ghost town. I'd like to clean it up a bit, but I don't want to screw something up. Can you guys give me some tips for the best way to clean the knife? It's got quite a bit of green patina on it, so I'm not positive how to proceed. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks

Personally I would use Oxalic acid. Can be purchased in most hardware stores like Ace hardware. Comes in a little plastic tub and its called Sno Cap. Follow directions for mixing with water and soak the knife for as long as it takes to remove rust and dirt. Sometimes it could take several days. Can be used on anything iron or steel and will not harm paint
