About 30 hrs on the A/T Pro

I am not a coin hunter by default....I'm a relic hunter. This beach/water hunting stuff has me way out of my element. I've had to trade in the camo BDUs for shorts and my shovel for a scoop. My boots went bye bye for a pair of water shoes and I've went from insect repellent to sun screen. The thought process still remains the same though...dealing with humans congregated together and having to figure out where the most congregating was done to find stuff. I guess the plus side to this is that beaches are well marked and such so that's a no brainer. I just ain't got the jewelry touch like some of you guys have but its only a matter of time.

So far this is my take for about 25-30 hrs on the A/T Pro in the water and on the beach. I only have freshwater beaches here but there are a bunch of 'em. From what I can gather, the dry sand must get detected quite a bit but the water is new ground because theres just too many shallow coins and such for it to be hunted....and the dry sand is void of coins for the most part. I spent the 4th in the water at a good swimming hole and got there kind of late and had to deal with the crowd. But boy do I have some good spots marked for when the crowds aren't there! I'm struggling to pinpoint in the murky water though. Visibility is only about 2-3 feet in the lakes...and if they are swimming its about 1 foot. I was struggling to pinpoint targets and then scoop them up. It got worse with the deeper I got too. But I did manage my first piece of jewelry. I have figured out three things about beach hunting though:

1. It's more work than what I thought! Swinging a detector in the water is hard!

2. I don't have a beach body and feel way out of place. Seems like I was the only dude there over 200 lbs and for sure the only one with a shirt on. Its even worse when I'm the only person on the whole beach with a metal detector...we get strange enough looks as it is, let alone being the only one there with a detector AND shirt on lol.

3. The beaches are full of more "scenery" than the relic woods. BUT be careful if the wife is there with you cause it could lead to some explaining of why you're looking at that gal over there and not at her. LOL. I'm safe though because I don't have that before mentioned 6 pack ab beach body and so I go totally unnoticed by the chicks hahah

Well here's what I got so far:

The coins...don't know how much is in there but that's a full size 14" sifter and its mostly pennies.

And my jewelry. Is a little arrowhead charm. I think it must be made of pewter or something its corroded bad and sure ain't silver or gold :(

I'm digging it all out there in the water...all but iron signals. Pro mode, Zero. The beach I was at yesterday was the hottest ground I've been in thus far. Everywhere on that beach would ground balance in the low 90s! Highest was 93. No wonder my other machines have struggled up there...that ground is some hot ground. That's worse than my red dirt bullet site.

1) sure the heck is!! On the plus side, you stay cool..at least the bottom half!!
2)What detectorist does?? None I've ever seen!! Best bet: Get there at daylight and hunt the water till the crowds start showing, then bail out.
3) the scenery can be distracting, no doubt. Best bet: Leave the wife home!! If she does come and catches you peeking, say you're just checking her jewelry!!

For a new spot that appears to have a good deal of loot in it, run you Iron Disc so you won't be distracted by the iron. Pinpointing takes practice and even then it can be tricky. Danged coins and rings will fall off the front of your scoop sometimes and tiny rings will flat out float off!!

Nice finds I agree with BCD get there early and good luck.

I sure wish I lived close to some beaches.

Always wear reflective sunglasses. This way you can enjoy the views with no one knowing. Scoop everything but low iron. I don't like the crowds either so I'll get there early. Sometimes during the week in the mornings...... I wear a shirt because I hate sunscreen! I hate the way it feels - tastes. I hate it in my eyes when I sweat......... If you get there early and leave by 10 am the sun is not as big an issue either. People may think your a nerd or worse when they see you - but they will come running to you when they loose something though.

If it's any consolation, I'm also about 8 GTI-2500's above the 200lb mark myself. And sorry, but there is absolutely no way to look dignified swinging a metal detector at the beach with a hip-pouch full of pulltabs.
