That is an excellent post...I live next to the old Packard proving grounds in MI. We used to sneak into the old grounds and ride our bikes on the oval track. I have been waiting to get in there with the detector..

HI Fred and happy holidays! Hope you have a wonderful winter season and find a lot of places to hit when the weather clears. We have about a half inch of snow today. Thanks for the info. ;) Take care, Nancy

Fred:
Checked out one of the abandoned air fields near me.
Eastport Airport, Indianapolis, IN

Located at N Post Rd & E 15th St, Indianapolis, IN 46219

39.79 North / 86 West (East of Downtown Indianapolis, IN)

I'm afraid its gone the way of re-development. I typed the location into Maps.live.com which is now "BING"

Too bad. I had hoped to MD there.
Lots of new air fields in the area though.
I'll try to find some more of them on Bing Maps.

AN UPDATE.
I just found one of those abandoned air strips in my area. Theres
still enough left to MD. Now I just have to get permission to go on the guys property.
I probably won't get there until this spring though. We're getting our third dusting of snow.
Somehow I suspect there will soon be more than a dusting. Guess I'll just
go back to sleep until then.
