A Yankee goes South

I've been gone the last few weeks, you guys have been digging some great stuff. I got the chance to detect in Alabama where my sister-in-law lives. She is about a mile from a minor CW battle, so I detected her land and found the buckle (CW??) and the Possum Sardine lid which are made in Maine. I got permission to hunt around the battle site on town-owned land and found the 3-ringer bullet which was quite a thrill for me because of my interest in the Civil War. I have dug stuff from that war here in NH, but to find something from an actual battle site is something I can't describe.

I also detected on a beach in the Florida Panhandle and found 3 zinc cents. Beach hunting is just not my cup of tea but if I had one close by, I would probably learn to like it, especially after a hurricane brings in those Pieces of Eight.

In about 3 weeks, the ground should be bare enough to detect. It's been a long, cold winter and it's starting to get a little OLD.

Very nice finds. I would like to know what the bullets come in at? I have family in Petersburg Va and have a chance to hunt some good sites. Thanks in advance, Beale.

To be honest Beale, that was one of the times I didn't look at the display. I just knew it sounded good and the number didn't matter, but I would guess it was around the 28 - 32 range. It sounded like a shotgun casing and that falls in that range. Good luck in Va., you should find something there as there was a lot of CW action in that state. Ron
