Found this in a Union Cavalry camp. About 2 inches long and feels like heavy solid brass. We've got it narrowed down to either some kind of knap sack clip or a sword hanger clip. Been looking at a bunch of cw pictures, trying to find a match. I think I saw this on an officers belt hanging from a sword. Can anyone give a positive ID? Thanks for looking.

Lower left of display shows one just like it. These are a few of my campsite finds in a shadow box.

Hi Steve:
Good finally meeting you at the Spring Rendevous. I think what you have is a link strap buckle. The link strap was used to move horse around by the ring on the snaffle bit (see trooper picture below) or curb chain on a bigger bit and was used to connect horses together so that one trooper could hold several horses. Hi Dave:
Yes, it was great meeting you and the others at the Spring hunt. Really enjoyed listening to you explain your view points on cw relics. Never a dull moment. Everyone brought in some fantastic finds too.
Thanks for showing pics of how this link strap buckle was used. Pictures say a thousand words! Thanks and hope we meet up again sometime soon! Steve

Wow! You have some great finds there Puddlejumper! Thanks for your input.

Steve and Dave,
Look at the top hanger on the troopers sword. I put that pic in photo album and blew up that hanger on the sword belt. Looks to me like it served double duty.

Man, you need to publish a new book on these ID's you do so well. Just the Horse, Mule team and other wagon tack would be a great asset to our hobby. Thanks, Dave
