A very cool first!

Hello all. Ma and I went out with MDHoledigger and had a pretty good day - heck, it was a killer day for Ma! She found her first ever eagle breastplate! The cool thing is that we have only been into the hobby since Autumn of last year (thanks to Metalmike) :yo:

Needless to day she's very happy and so am I. I did OK too - three dropped 3-ringers and a large tombac button.

We found this stuff in an area known to be the Confederate line of defense of Williamsport, MD that was deployed during the retreat from Gettysburg so I'm a little confused about the Union breastplate - a POW maybe?? I guess this area was probably visited by both sides at different times during the course of the war as it is near Antietam and the Potomac River.

Thanks for looking - we will get a better camera soon

Pa Diggins

good job....you just cant explain the feeling you get when you clean the mud off a beer can bottom....and see its a US Eagle....:yikes:

Nice find!! Not to odd to find union plates in known confederate sites. Who knows how it got there. We can only guess. My brother dug a beautiful union breastplate out of a known confederate rifle pit a few years back. Could be the yanks overran them and lost the plate somehow. Still a nice find no matter the circumstances. Congratulations on a great find!!
