A trip to Fort Atkinson

Southwind

Well-known member
Took the Deus to a site where Fort Atkinson (1847-1850) used to be that has been hunted to death. Decided to try Deus Fast and look between the junk and did pretty well for a quick 30 minute hunt. Still trying to determine the period of once of the buttons I found. It is very small (8.3mm) I'm thinking a leg strap button? What do you think?

I think you got a rhinoserous horn, its belly button, and four of its gallstones! For 30 min at Ft Atkinson, I'd say you did pretty bloody well!

Really Southie, I have no idea what I'm looking at here..I do know this, a rhino horn and some gallstones would be worth a fortune on the asian market, especially from a rare extinct American rhino, so I'd load them up on ebay described as such and see who salutes via paypal?

No head stamp at all. It's a .50 cal Spencer. Nothing but a pin dent in the center from being fired.

Anyone know what the small button is? This location dates back to 1845 when the Drgoons held a camp here until a fort was built in 1845 (Ft Mann) then the same location became ft Atkinson. So I'm trying to find out what period this button might have come from.

Ive found many flat buttons but im no button expert... just looks like a convex shaped flat button to me..pre 1850 ish... what is it made of? from the pic it almost looks like pewter. ..wish i could help....
