A tip for finding potential detecting sites

I am rehashing a tip that I saw somewhere that is proving to be useful and will be helpful when the ground thaws (#*%%?!! groundhog!). Head on over to E-bay and search the name of your town and any other localities you plan to TH. I have been looking over the post cards and maps listed and getting some excellant information on places that I will be detecting in. Most listings have the dates and most are quite old. The photos and text usually contain enough clues to help identify the location. I am getting more useful information this way than going to the library. Additionally I have seen several old locally written, out of print, history books at very reasonable prices. This info is going to help bust me out of clad hunting and get me into hunting the "good stuff". HH!

never thought of using e-Bay to search locally. Some of the postcards also bring back memories of nicer times/less population.
