A Thanksgiving soldiers tale. We can all be thankful for all the brave men and women serving our country. This is personal to me, Our friend Chris.:us

I met Chris when he was 2 years old. A Baptist minister sent his Mom to us for some help. She was a single mother. We did what we could over the years to help her a raise a boy alone. Chris used ride the school bus to our house so we could take care of him until his mom would pick him up after another long day at work. He was the same age as my youngest son, and we all spent a lot of time toge her, doing "Boy" stuff, you know, shooting bb guns, throwing rocks, and such. I tried to be a male influence in his life.

Chris and his mom spent a lot of thanksgivings with us over the years. The guys would play around while his mom and Nancy would cook. They were a part of our lives for a long time.

Chris joined the Army shortly after 911. He wanted to do his part. He ended up in Special Forces in Afghanistan's.

Two Thanksgivings ago he spent fighting the enemy and the cold in the mountains of that far off land. In the spring of his first combat tour, his Humm Vee hit IED and he was blown 30 feet up a hill. By a miracle he was not hurt bad, and no one else was either.

Last Thanksgiving was his wedding day.

Today he is back in the cold Afghan mountains on his second combat tour, as a Staff Sergeant. He went back to serve his country as best as he could. Last month he was in a convoy when the vehicle just behind him hit a large mine that his vehicle had missed by inches. He lost hes best friend and several other buddies in that blast. He got some more wounds for you and me.

Pray for him and the others in harms way, and give thanks for Americans like him. Happy Thanksgiving, DC
