You all know I am a Tesoro nut, I came across this searching around the internet & thought that I would pass it along.

CMD WOLFTRAX GOLD WOLF.

The Wolftax Gold Wolf is the pinnacle of metal detection technology. No other detector gives you the fast, accurate and reliable ground tracking in normal and severe soils like the Golden Wolf. Two Metal detectors in one! - It excels on the trashiest roman & celtic sites or seeking out the tiniest nuggets in the gold fields

The Gold Wolf is simply one of the finest metal detectors you can buy. Gold Wolf's Computerized Ground Tracking System solves the detectorist's greatest problem-ground balancing. No matter where you hunt, the Gold Wolf will quickly self-adjust to eliminate minerals letting you find more gold with ease. Discrimination circuitry with instant pinpointing at your fingertips takes the awesome power of the Gold Wolf into every type of metal detecting you do.

The simple to use, high performance detector designed to cope with the most difficult sites. 17.8KHz frequency (for superb sensitivity), lightening fast recovery speed and 10 x 5" elliptical search head (the optimum size for those tiny gold & silver coins!) make and unbeatable combination. Designed by experts for the toughest sites and then coupled with Tesoro's build quality - the perfect combination! Wolftrax Gold Wolf was designed to meet demands of the serious detectorist who demands optimum performance on the toughest sites with the minimum of fuss. No fancy meters to interpret. Just switch on, quick ground balance and go. Detecting how it should be!

WOLFTRAX GOLD WOLF FEATURES
17.8KHz operating frequency

Max Boost sensitivity

Quick precise semi auto ground balance

ED180 discrimination ciruitry for coin & relic metal detecting

High gain 10" X 5" elliptical search head

Built exclusively by Tesoro.

Tesoro also markets detectors by the name of "Laser" in Europe.

Thats right, plus they make a detector called a Euro Sabre. The Euro Sabre is the detector I have been using & I love it. Steve.

That's not just a misleading statement, it's pretty much outright false advertising. The "Gold Wolf" is a Lobo ST with a different name and color scheme, and what the specs don't say is that that the preset ground balance in disc mode doesn't "quickly self-adjust to eliminate minerals" and results in poor performance when trying to use disc mode in some ground conditions. I bought an LST with three coils about 10 years ago with the intention of using it as my main relic and coin hunting detector, but while it was "okay" in all metal mode it sucked in disc mode. My ground is virtually mineral free and the preset ground balance was way too positive, which resulted in poor depth and lack of sensitivity to high conductive targets like dimes, higher coins and silver rings. I got it to replace a Fisher CZ, but with both in disc mode, regardless of which coil was used, the CZ was almost twice as deep so the LST didn't live here long. It was a killer on tiny bits of foil, bb's and various other small nonferrous thingies in all metal mode, but the lack of depth in disc mode made it highly, and very quickly, expendable..

Yes the Lobo ST's automatic ground tracking is only in All Metal, and has a preset Ground Balance(GB) or Built-in Mineral(ization) Rejection in Discriminate mode. They do not advertise this in their product descriptions, as I have Tesoro's latest catalog and nothing is said about preset GB or Built-in Mineral(ization) Rejection on the Lobo ST in Disc. mode. What is Tesoro trying to hide. But it is said about for the Cibola, Silver uMax, and Compadre. I think they should newly revamp the Lobo ST with GB in the Disc. mode.

The Vaquero and Tejon have manual GB in the Disc. mode, also the MXT and X-Terra 70(5) have automatic ground tracking in the Disc. mode.

Just because a Tesoro has a preset g.b. in disc. mode doesn't mean its a bad thing, even their top dog (Cortes) has a preset g.b. in disc. mode. I don't think they are trying to hide anything, my thought is: lots of people that buy these non g.b. adjustable Tesoro's and it will be the 1st. detector they have ever used & they can slap a battery in it turn it on and go hunting and it will preform well for most people's ground. If someone bought one of the Tesoro detectors (especially a high end one) that needed ground balancing and the person that bought it g.b. it way off & it didn't perform well they wouldn't be very happy & would be telling everyone how bad the detector worked for them. But for many of us that has been around for awhile (including myself) would like to see an adjustable g.b. on all detectors.

I don't know about the Lobo ST I never had one but its not hard to adjust the internal g.b. trim pot. on any of the Tesoro's that I have owned,

All 3 of my Tesoro's are preset GB. I do not have a problem with that. In some ways it just makes my hunt easier, Beale.

There are many detectorists in England who swear by the LOBO ST , I've used one there myself. Granted they don't go super deep, but you can swing them fast, cover a lot of ground (which you need to do when your faced with 100's of acres) and using the 5X10 widescan with very little discrim. and high sens, this machine really latches on to targets. I've seen some tremendous finds unearthed. As mentioned here, it would be nice to have ground balance in the disc. mode. Also, a complete revamp of the battery system is long overdue....

Thanks for the great reports!!

Yes Chris Gholson wrote a report(Lost Treasure, November 2009 issue and also reprinted in Tesoro's new Metal Detector Inofrmation magazine) on the Lobo ST last year and said he didn't care for the battery system, but praised the machine.

If a person is not satisfied with the Disc. modes Fixed GB on the Lobo ST--3.5 lbs-hipmountable, then buy a Vaquero--2.2 lbs(or Tejon--2.9 lbs.) with adjustable Manual GB in the Disc. mode. You can use the H.O.T. coils on these. Also do not forget the 3.6 x 18" H.O.T. CleanSweep and 10 x 12" H.O.T. coils for the LOBO ST!

I've got several preset GB machines and one with manual and one with true auto trac. If looking for the best option for the most locations, manual or auto ground tracking leads the way. That said, In most of the areas that I hunt the preset machines do very well as the ground is mostly forgiving and I've found a good many coins and other targets with the presets. So, while the presets to have their limitations, they still often serve very well and can bring in the goodies. JMHO

I have just purchased the Wolftrax gold wolf. Apart from a toggle switch that has high and low, with normal soil in the middle, whereas the Lobo has black sand and whatever, I see no difference in both machines. If there is a difference, I would love to know what it is.

I live in north shields Tyne & wear. I am unable to drive now, but would love to meet someone with a car and go half's on expense to go detecting.
