hiya guys,,,was lucky enough to buy this sucker,,,it came from a house clearance ,,,paid a fair price for it ,,,but less than what i thought,,,,its been in a cupboard for years and looks like its had very little use ,,,hope it works as well as it looks ,,,dont think its an xs,,as it has iron mask ,,,not sure if its the original or what ,,,its up to you ,,so,what model is it please ,,,rgds

That is the first Sovereign made and to me I didn't like as much as the other Sovereigns made. Some like the original that had some mods done to them, but I feel the next Sovereign model the XS is what made the Sovereigns as popular as what they are today.

The coil is the key.. A Great 8" Coin finder !! Iron mask switch is good too..

I know some say I think that it has an apetite for hot rocks or didn't care for it and felt others were better. On the other hand, one guy in a PM told me (and I won't reveal who he is so don't ask) that he's used them all and that the original he feels is the best. That seems to go against most opinions, as many say the XS models were the best of the older ones, and that the Elite was better than all prior models and that the GT was a bit deeper yet and more sensitive to small stuff than all of them. That could be partly accounted for by the coil they are using maybe. But, this guy did mention he does a few mods to the original model, so I don't know if that accounts for his opinion or what. Just throwing it out there. Down the road though, I do plan to pick up an original as a backup and to do the mods to it and see just what it will do.

I won't say what kind of depths he told me he's getting even using the original 8" Coinsearch coil, but let's just say it's deeper than I've ever heard of any dime sized target being dug on a Sovereign. Think about DOUBLE what you've heard of the deepest depths. Maybe it's the mods, maybe it's his soil. Who am I to say impossible for those reasons? I ain't going to, and plan to find out for myself down the road. Even if it doesn't achieve those depths in my soil, mods or not, I want another Sovereign or two as both backups, loaners, and also equiped certain ways for various hunting situations. For one, I want a control box alone of one of the prior to the GT models just so I can get it at a cheap price. Don't need the coil or shaft, as I plan to throw it into a waterproof Plano box on my water shaft (stock shaft) and keep it set up all the time as my water machine.

Comcat, you have the Original Sovereign,I have owned and used a couple of these detectors. The Original for me has too much of an apetite for hot rocks. My least favorite Sovereign.Good Luck Ron
