A snowy field hunt nets a large cent

I made it out this evening for the first time in my area this year. I visited the field that I found the 1793 Liberty Cap Cent last year. Since everyone has been posting videos, I figured I might as well follow along. So, if you are interested here is a link to it...

Way to get out an hit it man.

Nice LC for sure.

how did you hack thru the frozen ground?? Its still rock hard west of albany.

Chipped away at it, and then pried it up, in other spots I was able to put a lot of weight on the shovel and rock it back and forth to cut through. Under the snow it was easier, but I don't understand since it was below freezing for some time before that first snow fell months ago. I guess it warmed up due to all of the organic material aka cow poo in the field.

Back to mid teen temperatures now,so there goes any ground softness...

Nice Large Cent. The only one I have found was an 1833 with cement stuck onto the front and perfectness on the back (Green Patina and Detail). I tried to boil it in olive oil to soften up the cement to have the olive oil get to hot then catch on fire then burn down to the coin ruining the front (making it look brand new on the front). The back lost the patina but still looked normally 1833 old with great detail. All I am saying is that you are doing well to find them and them be in such good shape. Keep it up.

Thanks Angelic... Hopefully more will be popping out of the ground once it thaws...

Nice video and a nice recovery. When you were scanning the target initially I could hear what I call a "dual tone" sort of a jump between them. Did your TID show two different targets? For me such tones especially in fields seem to indicate dual targets or a break in the tone when the coil is coming off the edge of an irregular shaped target. What is your thinking about such "tones". Of course in the field we dig those anyway but still it is a learning experience for other venues.

And, if you would rather just see what I found....

Hi Bell,
Thanks! I heard the two tones, with obviously the higher tone screaming dig me and I was seeing 12:45 TID. However, I don't recall what the other TID was. In this instance I didn't look at the display to see if there was multiple target cursors being displayed (wish I had just for the record), and unfortunately I didn't have the camera positioned to see the screen that well, except for a couple quick glances. I simply determined to dig based on the high pitch audio, and 12:45. If it had been a more questionable signal I would have investigated it more thoroughly and probably would have been able to give you a better answer.

Update

Lets go to the videotape.....

OK.. I downloaded the video and played it frame by frame. You can see the reject cursor in the lower right, and a TID of 10.35 and then shortly afterwards 12.42, at some instances you can see multiple cursors and target trace showing you red in the 12:45 area, In the third image I think you can see the cursors at 10.35, and 12.45 being accepted, and the reject cursor at the bottom. In the last image when I am pinpointing you can see that the detector is locked on and only picking up the 11.43 (coin) I don't see anything else on the screen.
